In his 93rd year, our lovely Dad is out of pain and has gone to be with his Lord. He looked forward to rejoining our Mom, Kay, since her passing in May 2006, just after celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary. He is predeceased by his little brother John, and survived by three siblings: Jim (Dora) Rae, Marg Carter and Jean Head, all in their nineties, a loving family of faith, especially close having lost their mother when they were all children. A more decent and humourous man of faith than our Dad would be hard to find. We his children are left to grieve, while celebrating his long life: Judith (John) Manley, Dan (Kathy) Rae, Steve (Laura) Rae. Our children also loved their Grandpa: Rebecca (Adam Doucette), David (Michelle Arnold) and Sarah (Denis Groulx) Manley; Nathaniel and Christopher, Matthew, Michael and Katelyn Rae. Dad was a proud veteran of the Merchant Marines in WWII, a hard-working breadwinner who often held several jobs and studied. He was happy and proud as each of us graduated from university. He was a faithful Baptist, filling the pulpit often through his adulthood, always starting sermons with a few jokes.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of O2W Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, where he spent his final days, well cared-for and comfortable.
Dad is resting at Comstock Funeral Home, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, where visitation will be Friday, May 9, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9.
Dad’s funeral service will be held there as well, on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Rosemount Memorial Gardens.
Dad would be happy to know donations in his name might be made to World Vision or Help Lesotho.
