It is with such profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Anne Somerville (Cook), residing in Keene, Ontario, on January 6, 2025.
Shirley will be forever missed by her son Peter Somerville, and daughters Sheila Ryan (Jim) and Heather Doucette (Mike). Left to mourn her loss are her grandchildren Sydney, Adam, Erin (Kevin), and Emily (Soykan). She will also be missed by her fur grandbabies and great-grandbabies.
Shirley loved her time by the lake, enjoying moments with family and friends. She enjoyed many years of happiness at Arkadia and Theona Park. The last few years she has enjoyed sun-seeking with family at provincial parks by the rippling shores of Lake Ontario. She appreciated the simple things in life and always had time to sit and chat. She loved to travel and cherished family vacations.
Shirley’s passion for hockey was undeniable. Her love for the Toronto Maple Leaf’s was unwavering. The blue and white were more than just team colors to her; they were a symbol of tradition and loyalty. But Shirley’s influence went far beyond just being a fan. She broke new ground by becoming one of the first female convenors in her local hockey organization in the early days of girl’s hockey.
A private family gathering will be held, and a celebration of her life will take place in the summer.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please share positive affirmations of Shirley and practice kindness to yourself and others around you.
