Passed away peacefully and with dignity at age 91 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Friday, April 16, 2010. Predeceased by his wife Marion (Weldon), sister Catherine and brother James. Survived by his brother Leo, children Margaret (Michael MacInally), Catharine (David Hogg), Joan, Bernard (Agnes); and grandchildren Marion, Anthony, Weldon and Audrey. Bill was born in Port Arthur, raised in Harwood, attended Cobourg Collegiate where he won the Ravensdale Cup and was voted ‘best boy’ in his final year. He attended St.Michael’s College at U of T winning his varsity letter, and joined the Canadian Army while attending medical school, playing baseball at the professional level during the summer breaks. After graduating in 1946, internship and post graduate training was at St. Michael’s hospital and completed in Roosevelt Hospital, New York. He returned to Peterborough where he practiced surgery, obstetrics and gynecology for 40 years. Upon his ‘retirement’ to his beloved farm, he personally constructed several authentic log buildings, including his home of the last 22 years while assembling a vast collection of antique tools and furniture. In his spare time he fashioned paddles and decoys for the family and a violin for himself. His final project, virtually completed, was an 18 foot Dispro boat, built from scratch. He will be missed by all. Many thanks to the caring physicians and staff of PRHC and Princess Gardens.
