It is with great sorrow, we announce the passing of Barbara Darlene Curtis, 98, of Boerne, Texas on January 18, 2025. She was born on July 13, 1926, in McClean County, Illinois where she lived in the Bellflower Saybrook area. She attended Mennonite Nursing School for 3 years until marrying her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Arthur. They were married for 63 years and shared a wonderful life together full of love, laughter, and devotion.
Art served in the military for 29 years and Barbara served alongside him as a military spouse. She also worked for many years as an administrative assistant primarily for the Navy, Army, and IRS. Together they had numerous moves, both national and international, some of which included living in Georgia, Colorado, Wyoming, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, Hawaii, and England before finally choosing to retire in Austin, Texas.
In addition to her moves, Barbara loved to travel and see the world. Some of the places she visited were the Holy Land, Egypt, Greece, Germany (saw the passion play in Oberammergau), Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and most countries in Europe. In the United States, she enjoyed visiting many National Parks.
She had a quiet, gentle spirit. She applied grace in all situations, even when it was difficult. Family was so important to her and Art; she placed a high priority on seeing, connecting, and spending as much time as possible with loved ones.
There are some people who just simply leave the world a better place. Barbara moved through life with decency and kindness leaving behind family and friends who are better for having known her. She was known for noble characteristics of being compassionate, forgiving, a good and non judgemental listener, being full of grace, and being very patient.
She was a long-standing member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. She actively participated in North Austin Caregivers and assisted multiple elderly neighbors. She lived her life in a way that influenced both family and friends to experience Christ’s love and care.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur F. Curtis; son, Joseph L. Curtis; mother, Alma Bean; father, Lee Bean; brothers, Herald Bean and Don Bean. She is survived by her children; Barbara D. Anderson, Cheryle A. Curtis; her grandchildren Kristie Young, Herman Villarreal, Brian Young, Sara and Nick Braddock, and David Curtis; as well as many nephews and nieces.
