Bennie Mae Wimberley passed away at her home Thursday morning, August 29, 2024 at the age of 99. She was born to Albert Benjamin and May Belle Moore on January 18, 1925. She was the seventh child of a very close family of eight children. She spent her childhood in the Burnet County community of Briggs. After the death of her father the family relocated to Austin, Texas.
Living in Austin she met Vernon “Whimp” Wimberley who would become the love her life for more than 70 years. During World War II she and Whimp married. She traveled with Whimp from military base to military base working as a postal telegraph during the war while he worked as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps. After World War II, in true Moore clan tradition, she and her husband moved to South Austin where ultimately her mother and several of her siblings congregated to continue the remarkable close family relationship. In the mid 1980’s, she and Whimp relocated to the community of Manchaca where she remained until her death.
The loves of Bennie’s life included her husband, children, grandchildren and great granddaughter, brothers and sisters and their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved making stained glass, camping, planting flowers and doing anything that involved her husband.
Bennie is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Wimberley, her daughter Vicki Wimberley-Kailing, her brothers Odas Moore and Everett Moore and their spouses and her sisters Iris Williams, Letha McAndrew, Aleece Fewell, Iva Rue Montgomery and Rachel Juanell Moore and their spouses and several nephews and nieces. She is survived by her son Ricki Wimberley and his spouse Dee Anna Wimberley, granddaughters Anna Wimberley, Jordan Venable (and husband Jeremy), Erin Wimberley, great-granddaughter Natalie Venable and numerous nephews and nieces.
Special thanks to Hospice Austin staff, particularly her Nurse Jacque, Nurse Practitioner Justin, CNA’s Yadi, Patricia, Gia and Jose, and Social Worker Joanna and the numerous other Hospice staff that made staying at her home possible and her caregiver Ivonne.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the service, Bennie will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
