

Betty was preceded in death by: her beloved husband Alexander Matau (1997), their daughter Dawn A. Matau-Peck (2003), both of her parents Theodore Carevich (1978) and Helen Eva Vanaman- Carevich (1984), sister Jeanne T Carevich-Kubiak (2015).
Betty wed Alexander Matau upon his return from overseas after World War II (December 25, 1945) in Gary Indiana and they were married for 51 years.
Betty enjoyed looking for treasures at garage sales, loved animals, and devoted much of her life to helping and rescuing animals of all kinds.
Betty loved to laugh, listen to country music, and play bingo. Her husband’s career in the United States Air Force was a good opportunity to see the world and meet and make many good friends. Betty and Alex chose to retire, finish raising their four children, and live out the remainder of their lives in Austin, Texas.
Surviving her are her children: Summer Gayle Matau, Alex Matau (Pam), and Laura Matau (Larry). Grandchildren: Jeff Rowley, Jenny Rowley-Padal, Kallie M. Rowley-Patrick, Brooke Matau Krenzlock, Alexis Matau Sultenfus, Austin Matau, and fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Arts Amundsen.
She is survived by other family members not explicitly named here including nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal shelter on her behalf.
