Carl R. Wasmuth, 91, of Pflugerville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 16, 2021. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth, on October 12, 2012. He is survived by his son, Robert Wasmuth and wife Alina; granddaughter, Marissa Wasmuth; brother-in-law, Wilbur Maki.
Carl was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and grew up in the Chicago suburbs with many fond memories of spending summers visiting his grandparents in rural Indiana. He attended the University of Chicago for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry. He received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Indiana University where he met the love of his life and future wife, Ruth. Carl was a chemistry professor at various institutions where he shared his love of teaching and research with many students and colleagues.
Carl loved nature and was an avid hiker and landscaper. Each place they lived, he loved to plant trees and flowers. One location in Florida was particularly memorable where he created an amazing lush tropical landscape from a previously barren suburban back yard; he also ran a website with tropical landscaping tips and information.
Carl was a loving father and grandfather; his family and friends will miss him greatly.
