Floyd was born on September 7, 1947 in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he lived during his early life. One of his favorite memories was visiting his Cherokee grandmother in the summer, spending time in nature and talking about life on her porch. He later earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Floyd was a Renaissance man. In 1979, he moved to Spring, Texas, where he owned several businesses in landscaping, tourism, and photography. He taught high school English and worked as an organizational business consultant. He eventually retired to pursue his life-long dream of becoming an author, and spent his days relaxing on a pontoon boat on Lake Conroe.
In June 2023, he moved to Pflugerville, Texas to be closer to his daughter and her family in Austin. The last year of his life was spent attending recitals, graduations, school events, and weekly dinners, and making Belgian waffles for his granddaughters in the morning.
He was a traveler. He drank champagne and went to the theater. He was a reader, a writer, and a thinker, always exploring his spirituality and Advaita Vedanta teachings. Most of all, he was a father and a grandfather who deeply loved his family.
Floyd is survived by his daughter, Ashley, her husband, Dylan, and their children, Ava and Lydia; his sister, Angie Faye, and his three nephews, Sean, Collin, and Kevin.
