Charles (Charlie) Schiller, a dutiful servant to God, was called home on the morning of April 18th, 2021, surrounded by his family. Above all else, Charlie was an obedient follower of Christ; his faith strengthened and guided him through all of life’s challenges. Never once did he waiver, always setting an example of strength and reverence for his children and his grandchildren.
Born on June 15, 1951, in Austin, Texas, Charlie led a life full of love; he was devoted to his wife Sandy of over 47 years and poured his heart and soul into his three daughters, Kimberly, Amy, and Angie, and seven grandchildren, Makayla, Kylie, Kody, Callie, Addison, Alexa, and Anderson. Charlie was a steadfast pillar to his family, including his sister Dolores, and was a role model to his three sons in law, David, Travis and Andrew. His faith, kindness, and generosity influenced countless other friends, acquaintances, and clients alike. His example continued to impact those around him to the very last, to include the caregivers surrounding him in his final weeks.
For five decades Charlie worked in and around home construction; as a young man he worked with his father trimming houses and studied home design in college. He weathered the boom and bust years of residential building in Austin and eventually transitioned into home inspection, where he served on the Texas State Board of Inspectors and was a founding father of the Greater Austin Chapter of Home Inspectors. Charlie’s care for his clients, unimpeachable integrity, attention to detail, and work ethic set an exemplary standard for many in his industry. He retired in October 2020 to spend more time with his grandchildren.
A man of great strength, he was equally tender and resolved, soft-spoken and firm. He coached his daughters in softball and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports or perform in school plays. His example will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his life shall serve as a lasting testimony to the strength bestowed upon us through faith in Christ.
Charlie is now welcomed into heaven by his father Alvin, his mother Adelle, his father-in-law Howard Riethmeyer, mother-in-law Christean Riethmeyer, and his nephew John Karkoska. Until we all are united, those who knew him in life will cherish his memory and the time we shared.
