Born February 13, 1943, in Palestine, Texas, Charlie Frank Reeves was the youngest son of Tommie and Lillian Phillips. His upbringing was defined by faith and a love for learning; he was an active member of his family's church and excelled in a supportive educational environment. A testament to his dedication and the quality of his instructors, Charlie graduated as Valedictorian of his class at A.M. Story High School.
Following his graduation from Prairie View A&M with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Charlie accepted a position with the Naval Electronics Laboratory Center in San Diego, California. His time in San Diego proved transformative; while establishing his career, he earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University. It was also there that he had the good fortune to meet and marry his devoted wife of 58 years, Alice Marie Shaw. Together, they were blessed with two children, Beverly and Jason.
In the summer of 1976, Charlie joined the IBM Corporation as a Staff Engineer, a move that brought the family to Austin. Over the course of a distinguished 30-year career, he steadily advanced through both technical and managerial leadership roles. His tenure was marked by numerous promotions and prestigious awards, culminating in his retirement as a Senior Engineering Project Manager.
Shortly after settling in Austin, Charlie and his family joined Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin C. Griffin. For many years, Charlie dedicated himself to the church as a Deacon and an active participant in Sunday School and Training Union. He was known for his gift of song, lending his voice to both the Male Chorus and the Sanctuary Choir. He lived his life guided by the promise of Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Whenever he sought comfort or praise, his heart turned to his favorite hymn, “It Is Well with My Soul.”
Deacon Reeves was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie and Lillian Phillips Reeves; his brothers, Billy Dan and Raymond Reeves; and his son, Jason Reeves.
Charlie departed this life on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Alice Shaw Reeves, his daughter, Beverly Reeves, his grandchildren Kyra Jordan and Jaylon Carter Reeves, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
