

Daniel Joseph Martinka, born January 30, 1941, to Albina and Joseph Martinka in Granger, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Cornell Martinka.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Catherine, son Nathan Martinka, daughter Dana Herzog (Bobby), brother Ben Martinka (Vicki), sister Grace Cole (David), sister Bernice Schwertner (Anton), grandchildren Justin Martinka (Rebecca), Britta Stone (Chris), Chelsea Herzog, BJ Herzog and Haley Herzog, great-grandchildren Bradley Starks, Faith Starks, Carson Martinka, and Aubree Martinka, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Daniel retired from the City of Austin after 30 years with the Water and Wastewater Department. He was an avid fisherman, spending summers in Rockport, Texas with his family and tending to his garden with Mary by his side. He was best known for his famous barbecued brisket, domino playing, and love of his family. Daniel will be deeply missed by his family and everyone he called friend.
Pallbearers will be Justin Martinka, BJ Herzog, Tim Hodges, Colby Martinka, Chad Martinka, and Jason Cole. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel’s long life friends, David Cantrell and Joe Havard.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 6:00-8:00pm at Cook-Walden Pflugerville. Church and Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:00am at St. John’s Richland Church in Pflugerville.
