As the son of a pilot, Dave and his 3 brothers grew up on Air Force bases around the world. He graduated from Yamato High School in Yamato, Japan in 1969. Dave married Carolyn (Mueller) Duel in 1977 and they settled in Pflugerville, Texas to raise their family. He worked for Texas Instruments as a plant operations manager for most of his career, staying with the plant through transitions to Raytheon, Tyco, and Flextronics. While he loved fishing and collecting guns, Dave’s two greatest passions were his family and motorcycles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether they were at a baseball game, a racetrack, watching movies, or on Face Time. He was so proud of them and loved seeing their accomplishments, even when he could not be there in person. He reconnected with a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins in Illinois and Tennessee and truly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them. His other passion was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He would take long rides through the Texas Hill Country with his friends and, when riding became too difficult, he would map out routes for them to take and send him pictures. He attended Rot Rally every year for 23 years and looked forward to spending that time with his daughter and son-in-law at the event.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Duel, and his brother, James Louis Duel, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn, and their 4 children, Theresa Castaneda, Benjamin Kirk (wife Melissa), Aimee Janousek (husband Billy), and Nikki Duel (husband Chad Wertz). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his brothers, Larry and Gary Duel, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. His grandchildren are: Joseph (Casie) Granado, Brittany (Brit) Epley, Dusti Kirk, Taylor Kirk, Meagan Castaneda, Layne Kirk, Marcus Perez, Fabian Perez, Shelby Kirk, Ashleigh Janousek, Kalib Wertz, and Tyler Janousek. His great-grandchildren are: Tanner Jones, KayLee Jones, Haedyn Epley, and Jayce Granado.
