

The family moved to Austin in 1953. At age eleven he sold donuts door to door for Mary Lou’s Sweet Shop. He worked as a car hop and short order cook for A & W Root Beer, sacker and stocker for Safeway Groceries, and helped move Teachers Retirement. He also worked during the summer for the Highway Department and U-Tot-Em Stores. He graduated from Travis High School in Austin and attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas for basic training. He served with the Headquarters 15th Weather Squadron at McGuire AFB in New Jersey. He was stationed at the U.S. Postal Service at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand and Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force Base in Bangkok, Thailand and the 4th Mobil Com Group at Altus AFB in Oklahoma.
David was also very involved in the Boy Scouts serving as Cub Scout Leader for Pack 490, Tiger Cub, Webelo, Cub Master and Boy Scout Leader and as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 92. He was also an Elder at St. Paul Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He loved to travel and had been to all fifty states, including Washington D.C., and had been to thirty-three of the sixty-three National Parks. He had also been to many provinces in Canada, to Mexico, Wake Island, Okinawa, Japan, Thailand, Kenya and Tanzania.
David is preceded in death by his mother, father and one sister. He is survived by his former wife, Uthai; children, Shellie and Michael; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister; and several nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held.
