

Ret. Captain David Glenn Newton of Round Rock, Texas, passed away on January 21, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on April 16,1935 in Gainesville, Texas. David’s parents moved to Happy Jack, Arizona, outside of Flagstaff, where they grew up. David’s dad worked for the Southwest Lumber Company, driving a grader for 30 years.
He graduated from Flagstaff High School and joined the Air Force after graduation at the age of 17.
David Newton had basic training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio. He then attended school for aircraft mechanics at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. This was the start of a meritorious career.
David Newton would go on to serve at several bases both in the United States and overseas over several years.
During this time, David Newton went from starting as Private to Staff Sargent, to 2nd Lieutenant to 1st Lieutenant, and retired as Captain on May 31, 1974, in Austin.
Throughout all the moves and assignments, David Newton attended colleges and universities, earning his BS degree from Univ. Of Colorado in Business Administration and his MBA from the Univ. Of Rochester.
Capt. David Newton also received the Air Force Medal of Commendation for his outstanding technical advice, problem resolution, and Managerial competence.
The Bronze Star medal was also awarded for his duty in Thailand, faced being severely undermanned in his squadron, and held several records for combat missions and hours flown. The records were held for 7 of the 11 months of his position, which reflected his exemplary leadership, personal behavior, and dedication to duty, and were a great credit to him.
After retiring from the Air Force, David (Dave) Newton became a successful realtor. Many years later, David and his wife, Virginia (Ginny), moved to Lake Branson, Missouri. David earned a teaching certificate and taught at a business college and Southwest MO State University.
They later moved to Dallas, where Dave taught at two other business colleges.
Dave and Ginny moved back to Austin, and Dave started his own real estate company full-time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Letha Newton, and siblings Lamona, Ralph, and Ken, and his wife, Virginia Newton.
He is survived by his sons, Alexander and his wife, Lucy, and Glenn Newton and his wife, Mary Kay; stepsons Scot Houghton and his wife, Sue, and Dale Houghton and his wife, Jill, and their families.
David liked to go country-western dancing, play bridge, and have popcorn with a good action movie. David and Virginia would go on trips and cruises from time to time. They enjoyed their swimming pool and having family over to swim and spend time together.
The family would like to thank The University Village Memory Care of Round Rock and Valerian Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, located at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas, 78660, on February 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location, starting at 2:00 pm.
A committal service will be held at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery, located at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas, 78660, on February 3, 2026, beginning at 3:00 pm.
