

She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Bethel Baptist Church by the late Rev. L. R. Kelly. She graduated from L.C. Anderson High School in 1966. After high school, she earned several administrative certificates and licenses.
She was married to the late Richard C. Black and to this union had three daughters, Demitra Alexander, Regina Whiteside, and Dandrea Wilson of Austin Texas.
She worked at the Internal Revenue Service for several years and retired from the State of Texas after 25 years of service.
She was the co-owner of the Austin’s first African American owned Driving School (Metro Driving School), where she managed operations and taught Driver’s Education.
She was licensed to preach by the late Rev. A.R Evans of the New Lincoln Baptist Church on September 15, 1985. She was later ordained by the late Billy Hines of the Bethel Christian Fellowship Church on February 19, 1989.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ruben E. Lewis, her mother, Irene Terrell Lewis, her brothers; Curtis Lewis and Charles Lewis.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters; Demitra Alexander, Regina Whiteside, and Dandrea (Chris) Wilson, grandsons; Quinton (Jen) Alexander and Nathaniel (Ashley) Gillespie, granddaughter, Armani Black, great granddaughters; Brielle Alexander, Tess Alexander, Kinsley Gillespie and Karissa Gillespie, great grandsons; Nathaniel Gillespie, III and Cruz Alexander, Sisters; Patricia Cannon and Katherine Brown and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
A graveside funeral service for Dorothy will be held Friday, July 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Cook Walden – Memorial Hill Cemetery, 13700 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
