

Dorothy Luretha Elizabeth Mitchell – Calip, 79 years of age, passed away on December 26, 2020. She was born to Fletcher Mitchell and Annie Pearl Daily in Evergreen, Alabama on March 16, 1941.
Dorothy was wedded to Lawrence Calip, Sr. in 1958. They established a home together in Flint, Michigan, but later moved and settled in Lindale, Texas after retirement. Together they raised six children: Lawrence Calip, Jr. (Joycene Calip), Billie J. Calip, Christopher Calip, Sonya Denise Calip (Roy V. Beard), Patrick Calip, Sr. (Stephanie J. Calip), and Samuel S. Calip. She is survived by all of her children, 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy attended Flint Northern High School with the graduating class of 1959 and thereafter pursued healthcare training as her career interests gravitated to the medical field. She received a degree from Mott Community College certifying her as a licensed real estate agent.
Dorothy worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan. Afterwards, she was employed by the Flint Board Of Education where she performed as School Crossing Guard and as a dedicated School Bus Driver until she retired in 1985. It was her passion to affect the most positive change in people. The Church Of God In Christ was privileged to have her faithful stewardship from 1958 – 2020. Respected Missionary, Pastor’s Wife and Devoted Church Mother were some of the honorary titles given to her throughout her lifetime.
Lovingly referred to as "Mother Calip", Dorothy was the fourth child in a family consisting of 11 siblings and was pre-deceased by a brother (Robert Mitchell), her loving husband (Lawrence Calip, Sr.) and a sister (Daisy Pearl Mitchell - Poole). Mother Calip leaves to cherish her memory 8 siblings: Glady W. Page, David Mitchell, Annie Bridgeforth, Louis Mitchell, Leon Mitchell, LuJean Baker, Fletcher Mitchell, Sandra Mitchell and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
