Dorothy was a retired Registered Nurse who graduated from Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in 1976. Upon graduation she was immediately offered a job within the hospital. She worked there in Recovery/Surgery/ER for 18 years after which she went to Seton Hospital working in Short-Stay and ER until she retired in 1998.
After retiring she began a whole new life! One as a “Creeker.” Moving to Onion Creek and joining the social network there had her busier than when she was working nights with 12 hour shifts. She became president of the Bridge Club, voraciously read, sewed, knitted and crafted for various causes, all the while staying available to help anyone at a moment’s notice. Her heart was truly the size of Texas and she will be missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Franklin D. Hendrix, Sr. She is survived by her 2 sons: Hammond Hendrix, wife Joan and Grandpup Molly the Corgi, and Frank Hendrix, Jr.; her daughter from a previous marriage Deanie and husband Bo; grandchildren Jimmy, and Christy & husband Trey; great grandchildren T.J., Taryn, & Cole. She also leaves behind her only sibling and sister Mickey Bosher, Mickey’s son Michael and his children Michael, Jr., and Maggie; and brother-in-law Copeland Hendrix.
Family will receive friends at 9:00 am on Friday, April 8, 2016, at Cook Walden Capital Parks Memorial Chapel, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas, 512-251-4118. A 10:00 am service with Interment to follow.
If you would like to honor Dorothy we ask that you make a donation to Hospice Austin.
Dorothy spent the last 18 days of her life in Christopher House, (Hospice Austin’s inpatient facility) where she said she felt “safe and taken care of.” She wanted everyone to know about the “special place” where a miniature horse visits you. She was a kind and competent nurse thinking of others right to her end. This was Dorothy Hendrix--loving, courageous, and generous to her final breath.
