September 10, 1936 - January 26, 2024
87 years old. Jacksonville, Texas
On Friday, January 26, 2024, Eddie was joyfully greeted at heaven’s gate by his mother, Olivia Dominquez Billings, his father, Henry Carroll (Jack) Billings, brothers Leon Carroll and Dan Billings, and Jessica Billings.
Eddie is survived by his siblings and their families: Henry John (HJ) Billings, Velma Dirks, Rosie Weber, Helen Lombard, Lillian Morava, Keith Billings, Gene Billings.
Eddie grew up in Mercedes, Texas where he attended school through high school. After graduating from Marbridge Ranch School, in Austin, Eddie fulfilled his patriotic duty in the National Guard, and achieved an independent and successful lifetime of work in Austin. He retired from the University of Texas’ Landscaping Department in 2002.
Eddie was dearly loved because of his special and wonderful spirit. He lit up the room with his loving smile, his courteous manners, and precious conversations to make sure that “YOU were okay.”
His gentle assurances that “everything was good”, “don’t worry, I’m fine” or “ it doesn’t matter” truly taught all of us about how we should face life. No one ever heard Eddie complain about anything! As one friend said many times, “if we had a world of Eddies, our world would be a much better place.”
He had a remarkable memory that he used to bless others! He always knew birthdates, special occasions, directions, names of roads, where to turn, and much more. Amazingly, he always remembered to send everyone in his family cards for their birthdays and holidays.
In his own graceful and respectful way, Eddie touched lives. Recently on a trip to visit Eddie at The Legacy, a woman in a wheelchair pulled Keith aside and said, “you know Eddie is special.” Keith replied, “yes, we know he is special.” She replied, “no, I mean he is very special.” We all knew exactly what she knew about our brother … that Eddie truly was “a gift, an angel on earth” to help all of us.
Those who met Eddie often described him perfectly as an “innocent and beautiful soul.” His kindness, love, respect, tenacity, honesty, and gratefulness have forever left deep imprints of joy on our hearts.
With pride we thank God for Your gift of our brother, Eddie Lee. We love and miss you beyond words.
A graveside service for Eddie will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery, located off Howard Lane and North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
