Emil Kizer, 86, of Austin, TX passed away peacefully on August 12, 2015. Emil was born in Deanville, TX on November 17, 1928, and was raised in Austin with his six brothers and one sister. They lived with their parents, Roy & Viola Kizer, in the greens keeper’s house at Lions Municipal Golf Course.
In January 1948, Emil married Esther Schultz of Deanville. Later that year, twins Emil & Joe served with A Company of the 15th Infantry Battalion, Organized Marines Reserves in Austin. Over the course of many years, all seven Kizer brothers enlisted in the Marine Corps, a proud tradition in the Kizer family. Emil never saw active duty service, and in 1955 began work as an electrician with the City of Austin. He spent the next 33 years working high on electric poles and down low in dark manholes to make sure the citizens of Austin had light in their homes.
Emil & Esther spent 62 years together, raising two children before settling in Manor, TX. In addition to military service, golf was a proud Kizer family tradition. While Emil was never the golf professional like many of his brothers, it was always a sport that brought him much enjoyment (not to mention much frustration).
Emil is survived by his son, John Glenn Kizer and his wife Tammy; granddaughter Amanda Palm; grandson Ryan Palm and his wife Jennifer; great-granddaughter Haley Tenscher and her husband Ryan; great-great-grandson Clayton; great-granddaughters Avery Claire, Payton and Gretchen; grandson Troy Palm; granddaughter Katieva Kizer-Rodriguez; and great-grandchildren Ivan, Sophia, Dominic and Jeremiah; grandson E.J. Kizer; and great-grandchildren Dante and Emma; brother Milton Kizer and his wife Dorothy; brother Ray Kizer and his wife Sharon; brother Gib Kizer and his wife Debbie; brother Edwin Kizer; and sister Susie Gibson and her husband Richard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emil is preceded in death by his parents Roy & Viola Kizer, wife Esther Kizer, daughter Vicki Kizer Feyen and brothers R.D. Kizer and Joe Kizer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16 from 6pm to 8pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville. Services will also be at Cook-Walden at 10am on Monday, August 17.
