In 1940, shortly after her birth, they moved just outside of Wichita Falls, Texas. Emogene was one of five children. Times were hard and her parents divorced. Emogene’s mother and children moved to Lubbock, Texas to be close to family. Emogene quit high school in 1955 and went to work at a diner to help support her mother and siblings. In 1957, she got a job working for the Frito Company. Despite the rough times, Emogene never became bitter. When she would share stories of her youth, she would always have a smile when she got to the part of a cherished memory with her family. Her riches were not possessions, as they had little, but her treasure was her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved the Lord. She was saved in 1955, at a Billy Graham Crusade. Family was everything to Emogene. She felt a strong responsibility and love for her mother and siblings, and later would grow that love with her own family.
While working for the Frito Company, Emogene met and later married the love of her life, Bob Earl Hale on July 20, 1963 at her family home in Lubbock, Texas. They remained in Lubbock, growing their family by having two sons: Perry and Roger. They also joined and regularly attended Arnett Benson Southern Baptist Church. With the birth of her first son, Emogene quit the Frito Company to become a devoted Mother and Housewife. She also studied and achieved her GED, as her schooling was something she regretted leaving earlier and it was very important to her to complete. In 1973, the family moved to Austin, Texas. They joined Northview Baptist Church. She kept very busy between church work, work at home, raising 2 very active boys and sharing life with her husband. Emogene was an amazing cook and a gifted cake baker and decorator. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and watching over the little ones in the Church daycare. She always wanted a little girl and when her granddaughter, Amber was born, that wish was fulfilled. Emogene cherished all her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved being a Grandma, spoiling the kids, witnessing to them, her heart just kept growing and growing. In 2001, they moved to Pflugerville, Texas and were blessed with a new house which Emogene made it a home for all the family. She and Bob joined the First Baptist Church of Pflugerville.
Emogene was diagnosed and struggled with Parkinson’s. It was her wish to remain home and Bob supported and fulfilled her wish, no matter the sacrifice or exhaustion. When she was placed on Hospice, they were blessed with the service from Heart to Heart Hospice of Austin, and their wonderful caregivers. The family extends a special Thank You to Lidia Mendoza for all her steadfast care and love. We will always love Emogene, and when we get to heaven through all His pain and glory, we will be looking for Emogene.
