Epimenio was born on March 24, 1929, in Del Valle, Texas, to his parents, Teodora Aquilar and Antonio Torres. Although his formal education ended after the third grade, his natural intellect and talent for construction allowed him to build a successful life and career. Epimenio worked in construction for many years and was a highly accomplished woodworker—a truly gifted builder whose skill left a lasting mark on everything he touched. He had two shops in the back of his house where he spent hours building things out of wood for his family and friends- a hobby he truly loved.
In 1952, he married the love of his life, Georgia, with whom he shared many beautiful years of marriage before her passing. Epimenio was known for his sharp mind, competitive spirit, and unique sense of humor. He loved playing poker, was passionate about fishing, and was an enthusiastic fan of WWE wrestling, and proudly supported his favorite teams, the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. A distinct and memorable detail of his character was his pride in his partially missing finger, a unique part of his story that he embraced.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy was his family.
Epimenio is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Georgia Torres; his daughter, Maggie; his parents, Teodora and Antonio Torres; and several siblings.
He is survived by his four children: daughter Frances, and sons Frank (Dolores), Louis (Sandra), and Manny (Penny). He is survived by his daughter Maggie’s husband, Joel; four sisters and two brothers. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Ofelia Escobedo.
His legacy continues through his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including three grandsons and three great-grandsons by Frances; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren by Louis; and seven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren by Manny; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren by Maggie.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Hospice Austin, especially Nurse Julia Kanter, Social Worker Jentry Vines, caregiver Anita Fonseca, and several other caregivers, for the care they have given Epimenio and the family during his final days.
