On August 14, 2018, Eugene Evans Rhemann of Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and in the grace of God. Gene was born on July 19, 1941 in Houston, Texas, the son of Clarence A. and Laura M. Rhemann. He was preceded in death by sisters: Lucille A. Willard and Viola R. Clunn and brothers: Lloyd M. and Gordon E. Rhemann. He is survived by his wife Maryanna J. Rhemann and children: son Edward E. Rhemann and wife Holly of Camano Island, Washington, stepson James G. Richardson of Durham, North Carolina, and stepdaughter Susan R. Barnes and husband John of Houston, Texas.
Gene was a graduate of Wm. B. Travis High School in Austin and received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and master’s degree from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi. He served as a high school band director for 21 years in the Robstown, Taylor, Lockhart, Giddings and Weimar school districts and for 22 years as an educational consultant for the Texas Education Agency Division of Human Resources/Accreditation; Director of Public Information for Robstown ISD and Director of Human Resources/Fine Arts for Magnolia ISD. He was a longtime member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church and played in the WUMC orchestra. He was a life member of: the UT Ex-Students Association, the Hill City Lodge #456 AF & AM, the Lockhart Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and was an affiliated past patron of the Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity. Gene was also a member of the Houston Professional Musicians’ Association and previously served as the Chairman of the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gene dedicated his life to his family, his church, and to the students, teachers and administrators with whom he had worked. He worked to help students realize their potential while instilling an enjoyment of the beauty of the music being performed. At the same time, Gene encouraged students to balance artistic accomplishment with academic success.
The memorial service will be held at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, on Thursday, August 23rd at 10 a.m., (2200 Lake Woodlands Dr, The Woodlands TX, 77380). A reception will immediately follow the service.
Burial will occur at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas on Tuesday, August 21st at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to the American Kidney Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, The Woodlands United Methodist Church, Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
