Felix R. Hernandez August 2, 1956 - November 16, 2021
Felix was born and raised in Alpine Texas, a place that always remained near and dear to his heart. Through his school years he enjoyed running track, received many awards, and was proudly know as “The Panther”. Felix was a kind and hardworking man. He spent the majority of his career working on aircrafts as an aircraft tech and was very well liked and respected by everyone he worked with. When not at work, Felix enjoyed restoration projects. He was always busy on home renovation projects, fixing old radios, and restoring bikes and cars. He loved watching This Old House, American Pickers, and Antique Roadshow; getting new ideas for projects and giving old things new life.
Felix is survived by his wife and best friend in life, Mary Hernandez. Felix and Mary never spent one day apart in their 21 years of marriage. They were fortunate enough to work side by side and experience many new and beautiful places together. Felix marked every special occasion with his signature long stem red roses as a gift to Mary. Felix and Mary loved going on drives, listening to music, and working in the yard together. They ended every evening watching movies together and their children often joked there wasn’t a Hallmark movie they hadn’t watched.
Felix was an amazing father and grandfather. He was so proud of his family and always excited to share stories of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his six children Felix Hernandez Jr. (Liliana), Luis Ray Hernandez (Christie), Matthew Paul Hernandez, Lori Beth Hedrick, Melissa Ann Chavez (Amanda), and Tony Chavez III (Veni) and 9 grandchildren, Felix Hernandez III, Priscilla Anahi Hernandez, Luis Ray Hernandez Jr., Tony Chavez IV, Caleb Chavez, Mason Chavez, Noah Chavez, Sadie Elizabeth Sue Ann Hernandez, and Jade Chavez.
He always looked forward to visits, calls, and FaceTime with his family. His children will always fondly remember his signature phrase at the end of each phone call, “Always be good and do your best.”
Felix loved sharing stories about his family and growing up in Alpine. He is preceded in death by his parents Salvador & Eliza (Rivera) Hernandez, brother & sister-in-law Ruben & Susie Portillo, sister & brother-in-law Lupe & Chano Rodriguez, brother-in-law Ruben Parras, beloved niece Ruth Martinez & nephews Evan Dominguez, Trey Ward, & David Belew. Felix was survived by his siblings Sara Portillo of Denton, TX, Salvador (Suh-Jen) Hernandez of Chula Vista, CA, Rebecca (Mike) Hinojos of Houston, TX, Rachel (Stuart) Miller of Abilene, TX, Arturo (Rosa) Rivera of Midland, TX, Virginia (Richard) Belew of Big Spring, TX, Joel Hernandez of Dallas, TX, Eva (Al) Dominguez and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Felix loved The Lord with all his heart and all his soul. He made the decision to give his life to The Lord at a very young age. He enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing scripture. He was often found at home listening to old Billy Graham sermons and listening to Praise and Worship music while working on one project or another. Felix looked forward to walking through the Pearly Gates and being greeted by His Savior saying “Well done my good and faithful servant”.
