Gary Warren Smith - 64, passed away peacefully July 23, 2011 in Austin. Born January 13, 1947 in Garland, TX , Gary grew up in south Austin. After graduating Travis High School in 1965 he joined and served in the Naval Reserve aboard the USS Suribachi as a Signalman. He then moved to the San Francisco bay area for four years establishing his career as an auto body technician. He relocated to Texas and lived in Houston and Longview, returning to the Austin hill country in 1987.
He is survived by Joyce Russell, his mate of 30 years of Lago Vista, TX, older brother, Clifford W. Smith of Pagosa Springs, CO, younger sister, Linda Sue Mortensen of League City, TX, three nephews, Zach, Cody, & Nick Mortensen, daughter, Autumn M. Hendrickson, and two granddaughters, Summer & Hope Hendrickson of Pflugerville, TX.
Gary will be interred at the National Veterans Cemetery in Houston, TX.
