07/09/1952 - 10/15/2023
Hang Qually, age 71, passed away at almost the same exact time and day as her father Thoa Nguyendon in 2016.
Hang or also known as Phuong or Blossom, like her father fiercely loved and protected her children and loved ones. Often working 2-3 jobs to accomplish this, but she always made time for everyone.
She was an exquisite orator and has regaled everyone who has ever met her with stories from around the world about her adventures. Friends of hers traveled from far and wide to pay respect in her last days. She had an energy and passion that was irresistible and she was always "the life" of every party.
Phuong was born in Saigon and grew up in Da Nang Vietnam. The eldest of 8 siblings, she was made for the role of teacher and protector. Blossom was always an excellent student and very charismatic. She was selected by the United Nations World Youth Forum to be a representative of Vietnam in high school and traveled abroad educating people about her country and culture making life long friends every step of the way while being documented in newspapers globally.
During the fall of Saigon she was separated from her family and had to navigate the evacuation alone. She courageously talked her way through numerous checkpoints while dodging gunfire and explosions disguised as a boy because she has always been so beautiful and recognizable. She missed her father's boat, but convinced some Thai Pirates to allow her on their ship. Hang was fluent in Vietnamese, English, and also French, but when she arrived in Thailand - she was so intelligent and creative she knew to draw the image of a police officer in the sand so she could communicate and obtain help. Phuong was also an extremely talented artist, pianist, calligrapher, and palm reader.
When she was reunited with her family in Queens New York City she was a purchaser for Lord and Taylor in Manhattan and attended Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY where she achieved the degree of Master of Science. She then married, moved to New Jersey and gave birth to son Albert Qually and then daughter Michelle Qually. She had a deeply close relationship with all who she loved - children, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, etc. and would go out of her way to help and make everyone happy, especially all of the young ones.
Hang contracted cancer in the late 90's, defeated it, then it developed again around 2011 and she conquered it once more. However, after she moved from NJ to Austin, TX in 2015 to be with her mother and siblings there - the disease came back in 2019. This time the struggle was more difficult than before, but she continued to enjoy life to the fullest in her own way until medicine could no longer assist.
Phuong loved to swim and she adored the YMCA in NJ and the Atlantic Ocean. She would swim everyday if she could and worked diligently for Walmart and other retailers for decades creating strong bonds with all she interacted with. No one can ignore Blossom's unique charm and everyone remembers her.
Anyone that has ever had the privilege to meet Hang Phuong Blossom Nguyendon Qually knows that she has always lived her life by her own rules and loved her family and God with the most powerful loyalty and sincerity. She will be sorely missed and will forever live on in our hearts.
