Harold J. McMeen, 92 years old, passed away on June 7, 2015 at home with family at his side. He was born in Monmouth, Illinois. He served his country in the United States Army as a Platoon Sergeant. While stationed in Germany, he directed an anti-tank platoon in provision security against an armored attack on a battalion headquarters company. He also served as a flag bearer at General George Patton's funeral.
Harold worked as a supervisor for Gale Products OMC in Galesburg, Illinois for 32 years. One of his favorite activities was boating on the Mississippi River where he enjoyed and spent many hours with his friends and family. After his retirement, he and his wife Betty took off in their RV and visited many friends and family all over the country. They finally settled down in Mission, Texas where they enjoyed all the valley had to offer. In his last years they moved to Pflugerville, Texas to be close to their family.
Harold was a great family man who shared his wisdom and spent quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a great role model for them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sylvia McMeen; and son, Mike McMeen. He is survived by Betty, his beloved wife of 71 amazing years, who never tired of giving him the best care and love. He is also survived by his son, Gene McMeen and his daughter-in-law, Helen of Pflugerville, Texas; his daughter, Debra Mesey of Rowlett, Texas; daughter-in-law, Betty McMeen of Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren, Christian Mesey, Ian Mesey, Mindy Mesey-McCusker, Jessica Ashcraft, Jocelyn McMeen and Chuck Velasquez; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. He loved his family as much as they loved him. He will be truly missed and always remembered in their hearts.
