In loving memory of Howard Klotz who joined our Heavenly Father on December 2, 2016. Howard was born November 9, 1933 in Williamson County to Walter Klotz and Mary Schoener. Howard resided in Hoxie, Texas outside of Thrall and he attended and graduated from Thrall High School where he played football.
Howard served with the Navy during the Korean War where he received a Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and was honorably discharged. He married his high school sweetheart, Arnell after leaving the Navy. Howard also worked for the American Cancer Society, but a majority of his career was with Thompson Litho where he retired.
He was an active member of the VFW Post 8787 where he attended meetings, organized events, and visited weekly. He loved the BBQ-Chili cook offs through the years and being in the Veterans Day Parade. His passion was coordinating and participating in the Honor Guard where he was able to give back to all veterans and the community. Howard, along with his son Norman, were able to enjoy a prestigious opportunity to take an Honor Flight to visit the Korean War Memorial in Washington, DC.
Howard also enjoyed having community involvement. He served on the council of his church, was the President of Optimist Club of Austin and was Commander of his VFW Post 8787; all while raising three amazing boys with Arnell Klotz by his side.
Howard is preceded in death by his father, Walter Klotz; his mother, Mary Klotz and his brother, Glen Roy Klotz.
Howard is survived by Arnell Klotz, his wife of 56 wonderful years; eldest son Lathon, married to Lynda Klotz; son, Clayton Klotz; youngest son Michael, married to Kim Klotz; brother, Norman Klotz; sister, Helen Kaatz; five grandchildren, Kristin Vogler married to Ryan Vogler, Rachel Klotz engaged to Shane Hamilton, Justin Klotz, Zackery Klotz, Kaitlynn Klotz and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Howard enjoyed spending time with the family at the lake in Lago Vista where he watched the deer in the open area. While at the lake, his favorite phrase to everyone at some point in time was, “shut the damn door”, and the family would jump every time. His favorite TV shows were cop shows and he also enjoyed Jerry Springer, Bar Rescue and Wheel of Fortune. Howard left us on earth suddenly, but will be in our hearts forever.
The family will welcome friends to Howard’s visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
