Born July 22, 1928, in Eunice, Louisiana, Huey had 6 brothers and 6 sisters. His career spanned 21 years in the Air Force and almost 20 years with the Federal Aviation Administration at Austin’s Mueller Airport. He was most proud of his Air Force career where he served in the Berlin Airlift operation, the Atlas missile program, and in Alaska in support of the DEW line system. He served several years in Spain and had varied assignments in the United States.
Huey is survived by the love of his life, Ann (Kitty), whom he met the first day he arrived in Fritzlar, Germany, in support of the Berlin Airlift. They have been married for 64 years. Other survivors include his daughter, Linda and her husband Marty Porter; sister, Eula Ellis of Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandson, Thomas Malone III and his wife Jennifer; step-grandson, Jason Porter; step-granddaughter, Mackenzie Clarno; and 10 great grandchildren.
Huey enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical around the house. He helped countless friends and neighbors with repairs to anything they needed. He loved playing his harmonica for everyone, and he brightened all our days with his warm smile and gentle ways. He was truly someone who never met a stranger.
A memorial service to celebrate Huey’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas. Services will be officiated by Reverend Al Washington.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Huey’s name to Central Church of Christ’s Building Fund at PO Box 2343, Pflugerville, Texas 78691.
