Irene Patricia Nunez passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of her family in Austin, Texas. She was born on April 12, 1940, in Superior, Arizona to Eddie and Carmen “Babe” Nunez.
Irene graduated from Superior High School in 1958 and became a trained cosmetologist who took great pride in her work. She was blessed to be mother to five children and throughout her life, lived in many different communities across Arizona and California. She moved to Austn in 2000 to be close to her Texas family. She spent her years there engaged with them, her community, and church. Wherever she lived, she built personable connections and left a lasting impression through her love, kindness, encouragement, resilience, and her constant infectious smile.
Irene was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose life was marked by grit, perseverance and faith. She was an overcomer who faced life with strength and determination, always anchored in her love for Jesus, and inspired by her love of family. Family was at the center of her heart, and she cared deeply for both relatives and friends who she considered her family, offering a listening ear, warmth, and steadfast caring.
Irene most cherished being “Naunie” to her nine grandchildren and making memories
with her family. She was always up for an adventure and would not hesitate to jump on the back of an ATV to go 4-wheeling through the East Texas woods on big family rides or tubing down snow slopes and horseback riding on vacation in New Mexico. Her family enjoyed many wonderful meals she prepared over the years, and her tamales and salsa could not be beat! Irene further developed her gift of gardening at her Austin home and spent her retired years working her yard, as her neighbors who would stop by to admire the results of her green thumb. She was an avid knitter, reader, staying connected with friends, and loved caring for her beloved puppy, Sophie.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Carmen Nunez and her son, Anthony Douglas Waker.
She is survived by her children: Jerrene L’Amoreaux (Gary), Paul Beatty (Marilyn), Steve Beatty (Cynthia) and Mike Beatty (Amanda) and her grandchildren: Ava L’Amoureaux, Brooke Walker (Kyle), Natalie Lord (Tiger), Crosbey Beatty, Hailey Beatty, Dawson Beatty, Hayden Beatty, Reagan Beatty, and Blake Beatty.
