He was the toughest little kid, a spitfire, a rebel — and don’t you know JC Salzillo was also one of the most loving and kindest human beings many of us have ever known. He was born June 11, 1962 in Hartford Connecticut, and before he could even really speak, the little tike would seek friendships by pestering his siblings to be his pal, “Ooo be m’pal?” They became lifelong pals and JC grew to have many.
On May 18, 2016, we lost our pal. At 53, Joseph Charles, (JC) Salzillo peacefully passed away surrounded by family. His wife Jill Mellor Salzillo was there by his side. In 1985, the two met in Bury St. Edmunds, England, while JC was stationed nearby in the U.S. Air Force. Head over heels in love, JC and Jill married that very same day one year later, and after serving six years in the military the couple moved to Texas where they raised their one son, Travis. JC communicated his many talents through his work in the fields of marketing, sales, creative arts, and technology. Some of his hobbies and pastimes included spending time with Jill and Travis, playing golf, hunting, and fishing. JC was an avid sports fan. Having been an outstanding baseball player as a teen, he enjoyed watching baseball as an adult - especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. JC was an active member and former officer of the American Legion Post 447 in Round Rock, Texas where he enjoyed the company of many of his closest friends.
Some of JC’s most endearing characteristics included his incredible enthusiasm, passion, sense of humor, and that deep spoken and unspoken love he had for his wife, son, family, and many friends.
JC is survived by his wife, Jill Salzillo; his son, Travis Salzillo; his mother Joan Salzillo, his siblings Dale Salzillo, Leslie Salzillo, Robin Salzillo Romans, and Greg Salzillo; his mother-in-law Rhoda Mellor; sister-in-laws, LuAnn Salzillo, Cami Salzillo and Elaine Peveritt; his brother-in-laws Lynn Romans, Melvyn Peveritt, Clint Campbell and Gary Schmidt; his nieces Courtney Campbell, Carly Campbell, Alina Schmidt, Gabby Salzillo, Cassie Salzillo, and Amy Mahmoudi; and nephew Joe Peveritt.
JC is preceded in death by his father Joseph "Papa Joe" Salzillo.
A memorial is scheduled for Wednesday June 1, 2016 at 3.30pm at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660, followed by a reception at the American Legion Post 477, 1000 N Georgetown Street, Round Rock, Texas 78664.
For those wishing to honor JC, the family suggests a memorial donation to either of the following organizations: The Fisher House Foundation at www.fisherhouse.org, or the Scleroderma Foundation at www.scleroderma.org.
The immediate family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to family and friends for their outpouring of love and support and for the care provided by the ICU staff at St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown.
