Jimmy Edward Nix II was born at St. David’s Medical Center of Austin, Texas in March of 1972. Jimmy grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1990. He swam competitively from ages 6 to 20, including swimming for Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University). He studied Business Administration at Texas State University for two years and followed in his father’s footsteps by completing his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at The University of Texas.
Jimmy met his wife Carrie while attending The University of Texas and they were married in May of 1998. After ten years of marriage, they were blessed with their first child, Caleb, and shortly after Caleb’s birth they settled in Pflugerville, Texas. Three years later, they added another son, Casen, to their family. Jimmy and Carrie greatly enjoyed traveling across the country and cheering on the Texas Longhorns’ football team as a couple, but they especially relished sharing these pastimes with their sons.
Jimmy worked in accounting with many startup companies throughout his career and eventually landed a job at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, where he would work in data analytics for the final seven years of his life. Jimmy was a lifelong outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, shooting, water skiing, and snow skiing. He also loved to cook and took pride in his grilling prowess. Jimmy was an innovator, a problem-solver, and a source of much laughter for those who knew him.
Jimmy passed away peacefully in his home in Pflugerville, Texas on May 5th, 2025. He was surrounded by his family and his four beloved dogs. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Edward Nix (2000). He is survived by his wife Carrie, his sons Caleb and Casen, his sister Cindy Nix Humpleby (Jeffrey), his sister Leah Nix Norman, his mother Alice Josephine “Jo” Nix (née Moxley), and his nieces and nephews Josiah Humpleby, Ryan Norman, Rebecca Treichel (née Norman), Luke Humpleby, and Anna “AJ” Humpleby-Heil.
