Jim was a man who loved to be of service to others; his journey began in Texas and took him all over the world. He had a glorious high school football career in the Panhandle, then, along with a group of new high school graduates called "Red River Boys", he joined the military to serve during the Korean war. After his military service in the Army, Jim took advantage of the GI Bill and graduated quickly to begin a career in the credit union industry. From GECU in San Antonio to the Credit Union National Association in Madison, Jim's credit union career was second to none. Jim also worked in the government for years. He worked closely with the military in San Antonio acting as a liaison with the credit union industry and eventually worked under the Reagan and Bush Senior administrations in Washington D.C. Jim worked closely with hundreds of credit unions across the country and around the world.
He was a great leader, as evidenced by his career, but he was an even better Dad. Whether he was cooking BBQ on the grill, watching football games, playing golf, working in the garden, planting trees, or caring for others and animals, he was the best. And he was always building. Jim built credit union buildings in multiple states, built decks in the backyard, BBQ pits, and playgrounds. Jim was a special man, a kind man, and a great father and husband. He will be sorely missed. Goodbye, Dad. We will keep thoughts of you deep in our hearts forever.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Talmadge Monroe, his mother, Lois Pryor, brother, Monroe Junior, and two sisters: Wanda and Shirley. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Ann, five children: Ron Denny, Steve, Jason, and Tiffany, as well as three grandchildren: Skylar Josephine Williams, Kaitlyn Anne Williams, and Mason James Williams.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 in The Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas.
