Betty "Jo" Crowe, 85, of Austin and Round Rock, Texas passed away on April 6, 2012 from pulmonary complications at the Heatherwilde Assisted Living Facility in Pflugerville, Texas where she had been living for the past 2 years. She was born in Travis County on August 9, 1926. She was the 8th of 9 children born to Marshall and Pearl Anne Crowe of Austin, Texas.
Jo, as she preferred to be called, attended schools in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1947. She worked for 40 years with the Texas Highway Department in the Motor Vehicle Division and retired in 1987.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Pearl Ann Crowe, her 5 brothers Travis, Nolan, Jack, Earl and Marvin, and 2 of her sisters Lorene Nolen and Lois Kuehner. She is survived by her younger sister Noni Haight of Round Rock, Texas, sister-in-law Ruth Crowe of Bellaire, Texas, sister-in-law Mary Ann Crowe of Houston, Texas, loving niece and caretaker Sue Kuehner of Pflugerville, Texas, 19 nieces and nephews, 33 great nieces and great nephews, and 21 great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Although she never married or had any children of her own, Jo loved the children of our family and acted as nanny to nearly all of them over the years. Jo had a good sense of humor, made friends easily, and loved her soap operas. She was an avid UT Longhorn fan, watched games regularly with family and friends, and enjoyed meeting with her fellow fans "Too Tall" and Laura in The Early Morning Coffee Clutch every morning at Heatherwilde. They would discuss and analyze UT football, then other sporting news, and eventually solve all the world's problems - one cup at a time. Jo was well loved and leaves behind not only family, but many friends from The Court Retirement Center of Round Rock, Heatherwilde Assisted Living Facility in Pflugerville, and Wilshire Presbyterian Church (now called Genesis) in Austin.
The family wishes to give special recognition to Jo's very special and loving friends Kay Singhaus and Paula Harris, and also a special thanks to all the wonderful staff at the Heatherwilde Assisted Living Facility for their patience, dedication, love, support and friendship.
Viewing will be at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home at 14501 North I-H 35 Pflugerville, TX 78660 on Tuesday, April 10th from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be performed by the Reverend Dr. Edwin T.
