He was born in Austin, Texas on February 12, 1934, the son of Bonifacia Estrada and Florentino Castillo. He was married to Patsy Castillo and they shared many happy years together until her death in 1999.
Santos was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Pflugerville. He worked for Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery for over 45 plus years until his retirement. He loved the people that he worked with and he was proud of the job that he did taking care of the cemetery grounds.
He loved gardening, music, and spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He also enjoyed talking on the phone and visiting with his brother and sister. He enjoyed being outside any chance he could. He took pride in keeping his yard and flowers looking their best. He did the same with his home always fixing things around the house. He seldom had idle hands and liked to be busy and working.
Santos loved Tejano music and was nothing short of a great dancer. Another thing he loved was a good joke. He was always a prankster with his family and friends trying to get a laugh from everyone in the room. He will be remembered for his ability to bring joy to every person he met, his hard work ethic and how he took care of his family, whom will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his son, Joe Santos Castillo Jr. and by his longtime companion, Carmen Nesbitt, with whom he shared five children; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Jessie Castillo and Mary Tello.
He is preceded in heaven by his wife, Patsy Castillo; his sons, Lorenzo “Larry” Castillo, Adam Castillo, Robert “Bobby” Castillo, and daughter Martha “Marti” Castillo where they are joined together again.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. A rosary prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Santos will be laid to rest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
