

John Edward Byers, beloved father, brother, and friend passed away on Sunday, September 10th, 2023. Born April 20th, 1951, in Austin, Texas he was the son of William Bowling “Bo” Byers and Mary Catherine Cowan Byers. He graduated from McCallum High School in 1969. After graduation, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin following in his father’s footsteps. He then briefly worked as a speechwriter for a local politician out of Virginia and eventually went on to work in the food and restaurant industry for over two decades. In the late 1980s, John owned and operated a drive-thru barbeque restaurant, Bar-B-Quik, located in East Riverside. He ran a successful operation for a few years until he decided to work as a salesman for US Foodservice, for which he worked for over a decade. He practiced real estate in the last several years of his professional career. Beyond his work, John was an incredibly creative person who had a knack for drawing and painting. He was a lifelong member of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, of which began attending while in elementary school. He was also an avid hunter and golfer. During his retirement, John briefly wrote for the Brentwood Neighborhood Association Newsletter. Above all, John was dedicated to his family and community. He loved his daughters more than anything and did everything for them. He will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Anne Byers Wille. John is survived by his two daughters, Belen and Madison Byers; two brothers, Beau and Win Byers; two sisters, Mary Herrick and Jean Axtell; nephews, John Langdon and Greg Wille; and nieces, Julia Walden and Daphne La Montagne.
