I am so devastated to hear about Mr. Comp’s passing eight years ago. I recently picked up flute again, and I think of him every day when I play, because he truly was an exceptional teacher. I was googling his name today to reach out to him and thank him for the invaluable time he spent teaching me to read music and play, only to find his obituary. I owe him so much. I love you, Mr. Comp! I will think of you always. 

I am saddened to hear of Jeff's passing.  At the same time I am flooded with wonderful memories of my classmate and fellow trombonist at UT.  He was a wonderful man.

I was blessed to get to be around Mr. Comp when he taught at Leander High School. His daily joy for life made me want to become a music teacher and, more importantly, want to be a good person. My prayers and condolences are with his family.

Kay, I am no sorry to hear about the loss of Jeff. We shared in many rewarding and fun times together in years past at Glad Tidings A/G church and of course who could forget all of the experiences we shared working together with the Leander High School band booster club. All of the chaperoning on the yellow dog buses for football games, the UIL contests, and all the fund raising projects we both really dove into it all and you were there sharing in it also. Jeff was a good man, a good friend, and a man of God. He had an engaging personality quality that touched all those who met him and I feel blessed to have known him. I know you and all of your family are deeply grieving his loss now, but I trust the time will soon come when you will be able to share in all the wonderful memories that you have of your husband, father and grandfather.

The Comp family--I apologize for not being able to make visitation or funeral service, however, I want to express my sincere sympathy for your loss.  I first met Jeff in the Army Reserves.  He was one of the most pleasant, wittiest and thoughtful individuals in our unit and made the week-end drills a lot more pleasant.  I cannot remember ever seeing him down, always smiling.  After the 900th MI days were over we sledom crossed paths but when we did it was the same ole Jeff, with the same ole smile---I really liked that guy.  I always considered him one of the hardest working folks I knew and was thriled when I learned he was able to fullfill his dream of teaching.  The world needs more Jeffs and my prayes are with you during this difficult time.

I send my sincere condolences to Jeff Comp's family. Jeff's enthusiasm for teaching was inspiring and infectious. His wonderful sense of humor was a true delight. I am so grateful to have known him and to have worked with him in the music education field, for he will be greatly missed.

Dear Comp Family,

So very sorry to hear about the passing of Jeff. We have many fond memories of Jeff from the years when he worked for Minimax.  Many of those memories come from the many Minimax Christmas parties that we attended over the years. Know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

One of the fond memories I had of Mr. Comp was 30 years ago when I was a part of the church youth group.  I think it was the Royal Rangers.  Mr. Comp had a gift of sales and knew how to engage people.  In order to raise money our church youth group sold "ice cold Cokes," at the Frank Erwin Center for a University of Texas basketball game.  Obviously, all of the kids were having problems selling the Cokes. Many kids would return from the stands with UT cups full of watered down sodas.  Towards the final minutes of the game one young man returned with a tray full of sodas that he couldn't sell.  Jeff's friend and my father Paul called out to the group announcing that there was more tray of sodas to sell.  He challenged anyone to rush out and sell these sodas before the end of the game.  Everyone in the concession stand room froze except for Jeff Comp.  He grabbed the tray of "ice cold Cokes," ran out the door and ten minutes later came back with an empty tray.  Jeff knew how to sell and I'll never forget that.  May God receive you into heaven and bless your family.

My sincere sympathy to Jeff's family.  I knew him as part of the Band Directing world and very much respected him as a person as well as a musician.  Many will miss him, but will not forget him.

Mr. Comp was a great teacher and a soldier for Jesus Christ.  I will never forget his love of Christ, his family, his students and his music.  I think I can speak for all of his students that he was a life changing teacher.  He touched all of our lives.   I will never forget you Mr. Comp.

Cheryl and I thought the world of Jeff.  Our paths crossed in many ways.  His love of music, his passion for making it and his dedication to teaching was an inspiration to us all.  He was a person who enriched our profession and and touched the lives of countless students and colleagues.  We are all richer for having known Jeff and experienced his love of life and teaching.

We have lost a good man on earth but Heaven gained a very special Angel. I thank you for being a man that we could look up too in our lives and learn passion for music at such a young age. I salute you sir.

I followed Jeff as band director in Jarrell and I can say that everyone in the community who knew him held him in high regard, and still does.  The success of music students in Jarrell was and continues to be a result of his teaching and caring for children.  May he rest in peace; and may his family rejoice in the knowledge that he has gone to his reward.

I will miss seeing him next week at the TMEA convention where he was a steady presence to all who worked the floor. Jeff was a good man.

Mr. Comp taught me how to play in beginning band, and fostered my lifelong love for music at an early age. He touched so many lives, and made so many musicians. My prayers are with his family, especially my former section leader Cris and bandmate Joel. Much love to you all.

I will always remember Mr. Comp from Leander Junior High School. He always made us laugh, and was a very talented musician and had a special way with us students. My prayers and thoughts with his family. Godspeed Mr. Comp.

Jeff was always kind and ready with a good dose of humor for me in my first (and often stressful) years of teaching. When I took maternity leave years later, he was kind enough to serve as my long-term substitute at Hutto Middle School. I will not forget his kindness and his enthusiasm for his craft and for the people he met and worked with. Jeff was a special man, and I send my condolences to his family.

The family of Jeff Comp has my sincerest and deepest sympathy for his passing.  Jeff was a wonderful person, and he will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched.
