Jose Angel Montemayor Jr. was called home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 7, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love and dedication to his family knew no bounds.
On May 8, 1969, Jose married the love of his life, Mercedes, and together they built a beautiful family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. In 1972, he moved his family to Austin, Texas, where he played an instrumental role in building communities and leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mercedes, and their five children: RoseAnn Nugent (Sonny), Victoria Montemayor (John Lopez), Mike Montemayor (Trina), Moses Montemayor (Danielle), and Jo Ann Montemayor Zarate (Erik). He was a proud grandfather to eighteen grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jose Angel Montemayor Sr.; his mother, Juanita Montemayor; his sisters, Petra, Esther; and his beloved grandchildren, Joe Michael and Evangeline Joann Montemayor.
Jose found immense joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought him endless happiness. He enjoyed fishing, BBQing for his loved ones, and relaxing on his patio, where he cherished quiet moments. He also loved taking cruise trips with his family, creating unforgettable memories on the open sea. A true Jack of all trades, Jose had a gift for fixing anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Dell Seton Medical Center, especially the compassionate staff on the 4th floor, for the exceptional care they provided to Jose.
A celebration of Jose’s life will be held to honor his memory. Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, April 11, 2025. Funeral Service will be held the following day at 2:00pm, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home.
