While growing up, Juan worked as a Farmer on a Ranch, and later moved to Austin, Texas. Juan, worked as a head custodian for Austin Independent School District (AISD) for 18 years before retiring and taking on other little jobs to occupy his time.
Juan had a passion for music while growing up, which led him to learn to play the accordion at a young age. He and his friends started a Conjunto band named Los Matreros Del Norte, where he found himself playing in small halls and even on a local Spanish TV show called Carlos Velasquez Show.
Aside from his love for music, he also enjoyed bingo and baseball. Go Astros!
He leaves to cherish his memory his six children: Jesse (Christina), Rickey (Cecilia), Margie (Gregorio Galicia), Mary Ann (Hector Sosa), Theresa (JJ Rios) and John (Lisa Carmona); 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and his sister Gregoria Yanis Orta.
He was preceded in death by his parents Santos and Luisa Yanez; brother, Theodosos Yanis and his sister Ascension Yanis Casarez.
