My big sis, Kerry checked on me every day. “How was school?” “ Are you getting enough rest?” “Coming for Idol?”, “How are your babies?” Kerry and I were both in the “school biz”, like dad, which made for great conversations and controversies. When her former principal and friend, Patrick K. Patterson took me on as an admin. (Lanier HS), it was because I was Kerry Owens’s sister. Kerry was best friends with every one of us, from Buzz and Linda Mae all the way down. We will remember you and love you forever, Kerry! P.S. The Animal Rights buttons were totally your idea.

Tan and blonde and super cool Kerry in what must have been a funny conversation with her big bro’. Both very patriotic and deeply religious, Kerry and Buzz seem to have direct communication with “The Man Upstairs”. My sister Kerry and brother Buzz have prayed for me, my children and grandchildren every night. Their love and faith bailed me out of jams, picked me up when hurt, always reached out,  upbeat, never complaining-our big brother and sister.🙏❤️

Family reunion w/Tommy, Mickey, Neil, Kenny, Kerry and me. There were bunches more family members there, but Kerry made it all happen. She was a family leader, unafraid to take a stand and represent her values, and oh, so much fun!  Kerry definitely kept things interesting. We took a vow to not forget our Owens and Mathis families, and she’ll hold us to it.

This pic is from Lakeview, Texas where Mama and Daddy lived for one year. Proud of our winter coats! It was a road trip up in Kerry’s red convertible. Nearby Lakeview was a statue of Bob Wills. Our mama, Nettie Faye had such a beautiful voice that Bob Wills and other bands would ask her up to sing. Kerry also loved music from early blues, to Elvis, to Willie, Doug and Townes and the Beatles. She never visited Graceland, but met Elvis in ATX. He touched her head and asked, “How you doin’ there, Babe?”

Thanksgiving at Kasey and Erik’s one wonderful year. Kerry was right with Dad, of course! We’ve talked about Kerry as a great role model, friend and supporter as we were growing up-sharing rooms and clothes, fun together times in our first 30 years. Over the last 50, she stepped out and stepped up, giving Mom and Dad a huge amount of love and time. What a gift!

Kerry joined our small close-knit community on Yaupon Trail in late 2020. She quickly endeared herself by being her normal vivacious self. Kerry often could be  seen working in her yard, walking her sweet poodles, Tanner & Romeo, and talking with everyone up & down our short street. She & Philip cussed & discussed their hibiscus plants and who won the prize for the most  blooms on that particular day.  Easy friendships and lazy days. Kerry adored her daughter, Megan, and proudly showed off pictures of her most precious granddaughter, Lucy, whenever she got the chance.  We miss you, dear friend. God Speed. Love, Donna & Philip

My first memory, at age 5, was at the park being pushed in the swing by my mother. I was so excited!  Auntie Faye and Uncle Morris were coming to town and that meant I would see my favorite cousin Kerry.  Kerry was the wild child, the fearless one. With Kerry, life was always an adventure. Her passion and zest for life made being with her downright fun. I remained excited to see her for the rest of her life. There is a spark that has left this world but Kerry used to communicate with my mother and hers through the Redbirds in her back yard. I’m sure I’ll be seeing the three of them in mine.

Kerry will be missed in California as well as Texas.  She was a unique and memorable presence!  May her memory be a blessing to us all.
