It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lena Estevez (Brennan). On June 8, 1993, in Austin, Texas, Lena made a splashy entrance, immediately peeing on the doctors who delivered her—a fitting first sign of her vivacious and energetic personality. With her disarming beauty and brilliant smile, Lena exuded warmth and positivity. She was always excited to meet new people, but her love and commitment to her family was unparalleled. Lena was a ray of sunshine to everyone around her, even through a long struggle with her mental health. She left this world on April 2, 2025, at the age of 31 years old.
Lena is survived by her husband, Ramiro Estevez. She is also survived by her mother, Helena Nguyendon; her father, Kevin Brennan; her stepfather, Jasper Gillmar; and stepmother, Tara Brennan. She was the eldest of 5 siblings: Sara & Emma Brennan and Chloe & Chase Gillmar. She was adored by more than 20 cousins, as well as many aunts, uncles, grandparents, and in-laws all over the country. Lena cherished her fur babies, Luke and Lily.
Lena met her husband, Ramiro Estevez, while studying at UT Austin. They were best friends who fell in love, and after dating for 7 beautiful years, they tied the knot on March 19, 2022. They moved from Austin to San Antonio to be closer to her husband’s family and begin their married life together. The family delighted in spending time together—most recently on a Caribbean cruise where Lena especially enjoyed snorkeling and seeing beautiful tropical fish.
She was a proud Longhorn who earned a B.S. in Communications from Moody College and a certificate in Business Foundations from the McCombs School of Business. She maintained a 4-year scholarship from H-E-B by loyally working there throughout high school and college. She was a hard worker who at times held multiple jobs and explored various paths. Lena turned these successes into a career in insurance, earning multiple certifications. Her passion for this field was fostered by Insurance Women of San Antonio. She found purpose, drive, and friendship in this group, eventually holding the position of Recording Secretary.
Lena had a strong and adventurous spirit. Even at 11 years old, she proved she was fearless by jumping off Acid Rock at Lake Travis (nearly giving her mother a heart attack). Her boldness was balanced by a heart full of curiosity, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others. Throughout college, she volunteered with Project MALES, mentoring middle and high school students in financial literacy and college readiness. Due to her own struggles, she was endlessly encouraging to others who grappled with mental health challenges. She found joy in the small things—puzzles, crafts, coloring—and often gifted her handmade creations to loved ones. She loved amusement park visits, especially with her younger siblings who she took care of fiercely. With her competitive nature, you definitely wanted her on your team during a family game night.
In contrast with her feisty side, Lena grew up meditating as part of the Self-Realization Fellowship, even traveling to California once with her father for their annual convention. She practiced meditation daily and would invite others to join her. Lena loved nature, particularly the ocean and beach, as well as hiking and camping with her husband, mother, and stepfather. She treasured family, visiting Austin frequently and savoring trips to see Iowa family members with her father, stepmother, and sisters. She showed her care through cleaning and never hesitated to take on daunting tasks, such as organizing her grandfather’s house (despite his protests) or helping her sister move to college. Of all the ways that Lena showed off her luminous, fun-loving, and silly personality, her smile made the biggest impact. People often remarked on her having the biggest and most beautiful smile they had ever seen.
Her motivational quotes, boundless love, and stunning smile will be dearly missed by all.
A Celebration of Lena’s life will be held at the Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. followed by a time for fellowship. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to wear bright, colorful attire to reflect Lena’s vibrance. Flowers are appreciated, as Lena loved them. In lieu of other gifts, donations may be made to the SHE RECOVERS Foundation, which supports women seeking recovery from mental health issues and other life challenges. We believe Lena would want nothing more than to help others in need.
