Lois Glenn Shrout was born April 5, 1941 to Dennie D. and Lucile White Glenn in Beaumont, Texas. Growing up in the local schools, she formed friendships that lasted throughout her life, especially with a group of women who met each spring for a few days to remember and reconnect. She graduated from Lamar University, married and taught high school English before deciding to pursue a master's and then a Ph.D. at Texas Tech University. Having published scholarly articles, she offered a teaching position at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Several years later, she returned to Texas and found an editing and writing job at UT's Bureau of Business Research, where she became associate director and worked until retiring in 1998. Having remarried in 1983-to Loyd Shrout-- she happily acquired a son, John Andrew, and refocused her retirement activities as the grandchildren arrived. She volunteered in the Pflugerville schools, the Pflugerville library, Chamber of Commerce, and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. As one of the Pflugerville History Diggers, she joined Pam Stephenson, Audrey Dearing, and Vernagene Mott in documenting the history of the Pflugerville area. She passed peacefully in her home on October 8, 2023.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 40 years, Loyd Shrout, son Andy, grandchildren Breanna Skelton, Jake Shrout, Noah Shrout, and great grandchildren Hayden Meacham and Wyatt Skelton. A first cousin, Robert Shelby Ham, lives in Jasper, Texas.
