

Madison G. “M.G.” Strickland, age 78, passed away on March 23, 2012 at his home in Round Rock. He was born in Fair Bluff, North Carolina on October 26, 1933 to Joseph Gordon and Vertie Lee (Fairfax) Strickland.
He married Carolden Calhoun on March 14, 1970 at Bergstrom AFB, and together they shared 42 years of marriage. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for over 23 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he worked as a member of the inspector general’s team and was a member of the Strategic Air Command. He also served as a member of the Presidential Guard for the Western White House in Denver for President Eisenhower. After his retirement from military service, he attended and graduated from Southwest Texas State University. He then began a second career as a supervisor for the external financial auditor with the Texas Department of Highways, retiring in 1996 after 15 years.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolden Strickland of Round Rock; children, Robert L. and Dana Lock of Leander, John G. and Laura Strickland of Cedar Park, William R. Martin of Las Vegas, NV, Lisa G. Altier of Round Rock, Mark D. and Wendy Altier of San Diego, CA, and Dina C. and Travis Gamble of Thorndale; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Parker and Christine Prost and his brothers, Elbert Strickland and Floyd Strickland.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4301 Kelly Lane, Pflugerville. Graveside Services with full military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
