Margarita V Hernandez

Margarita Hernandez, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend was born October 14, 1931 in Lockhart, Texas to Pedro and Cecilia (Alfaro) Velasquez and passed away on January 16, 2025 at the age of 93. She was the second of four children born to her parents during the depression era. Her home was San Antonio, and for a while, on S. Laredo St, across from La Gloria food market. But she also had fond memories of spending time with her grandparents in the country in rural Caldwell County.

Her first job was as a lab technician. But the seamstress skills her mother inspired would be used throughout her life, mending and creating clothing for herself and her family. She met her husband through family and after he returned from the military, they married in 1954 and have been together for over 70 years. Norbert’s job at HEB took them to Austin where they raised their family.

For many years they looked forward to going to family events and they loved to dance. They also loved to travel and looked forward to spending their vacations with family or friends in places like California, Mexico, Panama, the UK, New Zealand, and Spain just to name a few. She loved to take pictures and once returning from her travels she would spend time organizing the photos into albums. She enjoyed reminiscing about her time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Norbert Hernandez; children, James Hernandez, Paul Hernandez and wife, Martha; Dennis Hernandez and wife, Monica and Raquel Hernandez; grandchildren, Paul, John, Dominic, Josh and Alex Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Rachel, Paul Jr., Valerie, Victoria Rose, Johnny and Galilea.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Norbert Hernandez, Jr. ; brother, Jesse Velasquez and sisters, Juanita Arrollo and Olivia Salazar.

Serving as pallbearers will be Paul M. Hernandez, John Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, Joshua Hernandez, Dominic Hernandez, Paul M. Hernandez Jr.

A visitation for Margarita will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660 with a rosary service at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Saint Louis King of France Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Rd, Austin, Texas 78757. A committal service will follow at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
