

Marie Joyce Fritsch Hamm Coleman, 93, of Austin, TX passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022. She passed peacefully at Longhorn Village, Austin, TX. Marie entered life on October14, 1928 in Smithville, TX, the child of Gustav Fritsch and Dora Rode Fritsch. She was the youngest of thirteen children, eight brothers and four sisters. She was a descendent of early German immigrants who landed at Indianola, TX, and settled in the Shiloh Community near Hallettsville, TX. In 1929 the family moved to Austin. Marie has always considered herself an Austinite.
Marie attended Palm Elementary, Allen Junior High and Austin High School and graduated in May 1945 at the age of 16. Following graduation in 1945, Marie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switch board operator until 1954. The following year, 1955, Marie began working for the State Board of Insurance. She progressed in her employment with the State Board of Insurance and retired in 1983 after 24 years with the agency. She made many lifelong friends while working and valued these friendships greatly.
On February 4, 1949, Marie married Horace Hamm of Buda, TX at Central Christian Church in Austin, TX. Horace and his father built their first home in the Zilker area of Austin, TX. Soon after, their children (Cindy and Wayne) were born. The family later moved to North Austin. After retiring, Marie and Horace built their home on Lake Travis, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends, barbequing, dancing, gardening and traveling. Marie became active in the Hudson Bend Garden Club and Lakeway Bible study. In August 1993, Horace died from Lymphoma. After 43 years of marriage, Marie moved back to Austin and became involved with the Austin Senior Citizen Center, dancing and traveling.
On March 4, 2000 Marie married Lt. Col. (Ret.) Frank H. Coleman, of San Antonio, TX and they spent the next nine years traveling, dancing and embracing life with the joy of friends and family. In 2009, Frank died of pulmonary fibrosis, and the following year Marie moved to Longhorn Village in Steiner Ranch. She enjoyed an active life of meeting new friends, traveling and enjoying her quiet time reading.
Marie was an independent, active and spiritual woman who enjoyed life. She would always speak her mind, but in a caring way. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching the UT football games, boating, camping and fishing. Marie had a fierce and enduring love for her family and friends, many of whom live in distant states; but above all, Marie had an abiding faith in God and his goodness.
Marie was preceded in death by her husbands: Horace L. Hamm, Lt. Col (Ret.)Frank H. Coleman, parents Gustav Fritsch and mother, Dora Rode Fritsch. Brothers and sisters George Fritsch; Gus Fritsch, wife Anna; Erna (Ted) F. Prowell, husband Fred; Oscar Fritsch, wife Edna; Olga (Billie) F. Woods, husband Willie (Ford); Ben Fritsch, wife Hazel; Clem Fritsch, wife Lillie; Walter Fritsch, wife Thelma (Alice); Hilton Fritsch, wife Nell; Edna F. Kyser, Husband Virgil; Evelyn F. Hartung, husband Jim; Alvin Fritsch, wife Gladys.
Marie is survived by daughter Cynthia (Cindy) H. Coleman, husband, Frank of Austin, Tx.; son Robert Wayne Hamm, wife Linda of Georgetown, Tx.; Peter Coleman of Houston, Tx.; Carol C. Bustamante, husband Ysidro of San Antonio, Tx.
Grandchildren: Courtney Hamm of Austin; Colin Coleman wife, Christin of Austin, Tx.; Clayton Hamm of Austin, Tx.; Tynan Coleman of Fischer, Tx.; Krissy H. Runion, husband Josh of Petoskey, Mi.; Haley H. Stapleton, husband Ben of Waxahachie Tx.; Mark Thomas, wife Luisabeth of Clifton, Va.; Paul Thomas of Troy, Tx.; and Terisha T. DeLaCruz, husband Sergio of Georgetown, Tx.
Great-grandchildren: Maddy, Archer, Jordan, Taylor, Josiah, wife Vanessa; Micaylah, Jonah, Micah, Barbara, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Coleman and Hamm families thank Longhorn Village and its staff that helped to enrich Marie's life, allowing her to age with dignity. We are grateful to the nurses and support staff at the Casa Mesquite unit of the Longhorn Village, who were especially attentive these past few years. We would also like to thank the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and support.
Services for Marie, including visitation at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, TX Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with a committal service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
