Mary Katherine (Kasper) Durham, age 79, passed away at her home in Austin, Texas, with her daughter by her side and holding her hand on Monday, April 20, 2020. She was born on March 7, 1941 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Andrew J. Kasper, Jr. and Catherine (Mlinac) Kasper.
Mary Kay was the middle child of seven in the Kasper Family. She was brought up with strength, love, and compassion for others. While living in Michigan with her oldest sister, she met the love of her life, Ron. On March 1, 1969, she married Ron and together they started a family of their own. Together, they had two children, Ronald Andrew (deceased) and Stacey Ann. Mary Kay was proudest of being a loving wife and dedicated mother.
She and Ron enjoyed camping together and spending time with family and friends. Mary Kay most enjoyed being outside, camping, and watching her children play sports. When their children were younger, Mary Kay spent many days and countless hours preparing birthday cakes, helping with homework, playing on the floor, and making sure her children felt loved, respected, and safe.
After moving to Texas, Mary Kay worked as an office manager and administrative assistant until she retired. Her strong organizational skills and love of people helped her excel in her career. She was always helping others, and the dedication to others’ success allowed her to shine as well. Mom’s gift was her warm smile, loving touch, and welcoming personality; these characteristics allowed her to form quick, strong, and life-long relationships. Her love of faith, family, and friends was always evident; she was selfless and helped everyone she could in any way possible.
After retiring, Mary Kay was always finding ways to help her daughter either with craft projects, work projects, or home projects. It was spending this time that she valued the most. She later took up a hobby in latch-hook rug creation. Her designs were beautiful and her attention to detail showed in every completed project.
Mary Kay and Ron were married for 48 years before Ron passed in 2018. They had a love story that most people strive to have and were an example of a true partnership. They were great compliments to one another on personality, work-ethic, and fun.
Mary Kay is survived by her daughter Stacey, brother John (and wife Dolores) Kasper of Pennsylvania, brother Andrew (and wife Phyllis) Kasper of Pennsylvania, sister Helen Majerski of Michigan, sister Caroline Kasper of Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.
