Mary Ann Nicholson Holcomb passed away on November 27, 2023 at the age of 97. She was born in Nursery, Texas on June 14, 1926 to Clarence and Lucille Nicholson. Her family moved to Austin in the early 1930's. She met Bill, the love of her life, in her high school years while they both had part time jobs at Renfro Drug Store. After graduating from Austin High School, she attended Durham's Business School. She worked as a legal secretary for a local law firm for ten years and worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife and other state agencies for twenty years.
She and William (Bill) Holcomb were married on November 26, 1949, at the Presbyterian Seminary Chapel in Austin. They enjoyed traveling, dancing and entertaining friends. They were blessed with a daughter, Judy Ann, who was the light of their lives. Bill and Mary Ann had 32 wonderful years together until his death in 1981.
After retiring in 1986, Mary Ann joined Austin Ballroom Dancers. In addition to enjoying dancing, she loved to travel, going on several cruises and 18 Elderhostels. She took her grandchildren on various trips including flying lessons, skiing and hot air ballooning, seeing redwood trees in California and glaciers in Alaska. She was an active and adventurous grandmother and loved her grandchildren dearly.
Mary Ann was an active member of Riverbend Church from 1992 until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and two sisters, Irene Joseph and Mildred Keithly. She is survived by daughter Judy Beaman; grandchildren Randall Beaman (Hannah), Lisa Beaman Gonzalez (Jorge), and Bryan Beaman; and precious great granddaughters Rosemary Beaman, Evelyn Gonzalez and Emilia Gonzalez. Also surviving her are numerous nieces and nephews.
