Aunt Faye was my favorite Aunt. She was funny and witty. She was sweet and loving. She loves her family and her family loves her. I miss her very much. I love u Ain’t Faye.

I Love you Wayne, Kay, and Sandy

I’ve known Wayne~48 years & he’s had a special place in my heart 'forever'. I moved to Austin September ’79 & he was ‘temporarily’ living with Faye & Bill. Faye heard my family wasn’t 'doing Thanksgiving'  & insisted I join them. I declined-which was NOT acceptable to her indomitable Spirit.
I didn’t really know her but was welcomed like I was family, & her children were equally accepting. I spent 2 - 3 Thanksgivings there & really missed them when my family began gathering in Austin.  Faye (& Wayne) were FAR better cooks than my sister-in-law. Faye still had me come later for some of her exquisite desserts. 
From that day onward she treated me like I was one of her own. She was a terrific cook! Myriad times I’d visit & she’d insist I sit down & eat something-even if they’d already eaten. 
Like my grandmother, Faye delighted in expressing her love of people by feeding them VERY well.
Wayne’s taken after her, being a steadfast friend; often feeding me exquisite things I didn’t know how to cook. Gratitude for all that runs deep into my core.
It pleases me immensely to have known her: a superb role model for us all. I have tremendous respect for Wayne's helping her continue to be so as she aged & became less able. No doubt the way Faye raised him helped him through challenging moments when caring for her.
Faye was the only person who EVER called me ‘Jeffie’-a disliked nickname that was ‘kind of cute’ from her. 'Twas good because  ‘Jeffie’ was her name for me forever. She was funny, kind, compassionate, with a will hard as titanium-1 of the strongest I’ve known. I grew to love her dearly & enjoy every minute spent with her. She made me smile, laugh, & feel like I was 'one of HER boys'.  She was ‘1 of a kind’! I’ll miss her love; just knowing she was there when I needed a friendly ear. Her non-judgmental love helped me attain more self-esteem; her wisdom helped me through some rough spots along the way. I was blessed to know her. God Bless you Faye (& Wayne)!

Grandmother was a prime example of strength and beauty. She knew how to have a good time. She loved to dance and could tell the most wildest stories. When a situation would get a little hairy she’d tightly close her eyes (wishing for the best I’m sure) and let you figure it out.. Every Thanksgiving we would gather at her house and she would have the candy jars filled to the rim. She never told us “no more candy.” She just let us rip and sent us home with whatever we wanted from her house (Barney movies, makeup, costume jewelry...). Each time I was pregnant the craving of her pralines came in strong. I’d call her to ask her to make me some and a few days later they showed up in the mail💜 I know she loved me and I’m so thankful I got to have her as my grandmother. There are so many memories stored forever in my memory... her laugh and hearing her say “oh my gosh” are also recorded perfectly in my memory. She was so bubbly and full of life. I love you grandmother♥️

I've known Wayne for 40 years and knew Faye almost as long. Faye always welcomed her children's friends and made them feel as if they were home. Her high spirits and good heart were hard to forget. Whenever I think of her I smile. Last Christmas I gave her the cookbook "South" and told her that it read much like a novel. Then I told her "Then you can tell Wayne what he's doing wrong." Faye laughed - Wayne looked chagrined.

Born 04/12/1933 in Shreveport Louisiana, Faye was the daughter of Thomas L. West who was born in Arkansas and Nona M. West who was born in Texas.
Faye was very family oriented and spent many holidays and birthdays with her relatives near and far away.
She had 4 children, Wayne, Greg, Kay and Sandy.
Mom or Aunt Faye as you may have known her had a very big heart and she was a strong person, a fighter.
She loved her family and worked hard to support them the best that she could.
She was born during the Great Depression, a time when money was tight and that frugality stayed with her throughout her life. 
If she gave you a dollar and asked you to go buy her a coke, you’d better give her, her change back or you would face the consequences.
She was a fan of country music and has an extensive country music collection.
She loved to tell a good dirty joke especially at the embarrassment of her children.
It’s said that she still holds the fastest speed record for driving between Dallas and Laredo even though she hasn’t driven in over 20 years.
Mother loved to cook and she was a very good cook, her chicken and dumplings were famous as well as her Texas chile. 
However, her favorite thing to make was candy, divinity and praline’s. She spend hours making then and would eat the candy all day and have ice cream for dinner and her blood sugar would remain normal.
I will definitely miss helping her.


Aunt Faye was the biggest personality. People were drawn to her smile and her laugh. She loved her family and was proud of them. She was loved and will be missed. I hope there was a big West family reunion. Give my Mom a kiss from me.

Grandmother, there are truly no words that will ever describe how much you will be missed. I feel fortunate to have belong to you.  With you, I have laughed so much. Everyone knows that I can tell stories about you for days, I can quote you for days, and people listening will laugh for days! Thank you for sharing all those bags of skittles with me , and for eating all the green and orange ones, so I could eat all the purple and red ones. I love how much you loved to sing, and how you  never knew the words to the songs but would make up lyrics without ever skipping a beat. There are so many memories between us, but  my favorite memory, is sitting with you for hours in the same recliner, watching Wheel of Fortune. 

It’s no lie when I say, that you loved me unconditionally for our 45 years together and I loved you unconditionally too.  

I’ll never forget the many Thanksgivings had at your house when I was growing up. My love of food and cooking was created by watching you, my mom, sisters, Uncle Wayne, and Aunt Kay cook for hours in the kitchen. Laughing hysterically. The memories you all were making before my eyes were as nourishing to me as the food being served was. I hope to raise my children on the same nourishment, love and memory making as I was. It was you who created our Thanksgiving get togethers that will continue as tradition.  Thank you Grandmother. You will be missed. We love you. 


Our dear Mother has joined her family in heaven.
She was a good mother, teacher and friend who did everything she could to support and encourage her family.
She had a kind heart and will be missed by all who know her.

Faye Fitz is survived by her son Wayne DeSoto, and his husband Hernay Escobar, Kay Godbold and her husband Lee and Sandy Maxwell and her husband Greg. At last count she had 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
