I was Michael's patient for 25 years and I am devastated by his passing. He was a great physician and friend. I will miss him terribly, and my heart goes out to all of his loved ones.

I am so sorry. I just heard about this from one of Michael’s colleagues. I was a brand new administrator at ADC, and was privileged to interview and hire Dr. Romain. He would become my doctor for many years and a treasured friend and confidant and an absolutely outstanding individual, The world is a little less bright with Mike gone.

Dr Romain, I am so heartbroken to hear about your sudden passing. I still cannot believe that you are gone. But I take solace in knowing that you are resting peacefully among the angels. As one of your first patients at ADC, I will forever be grateful not just for the selfless care, but I am also deeply grateful that I got to know you for all those years. We talked about family, life, the world, and humanity. By knowing you, I realized a long time ago that the ups and downs of life are just situations that really enlighten us as we go through evolution.

I was fortunate to call him my Doctor from the time he first came to ADC until my last visit this past summer.  My deepest condolences to his family and the Internal Medicine staff who clearlly respected and adored him.  Our semi-annual visits included conversations about public health policy (my career and passion,) the state of medical care and inevitably the politics that affected our careers and personal lives.   We talked travel which was another shared passion. Early on I noticed a framed poster (from a Houston gallery in Rice Village) in one of his exam rooms.  I asked where he got it and my recollection is that he said they got it at an Austin garage sale.  It was my garage sale. Having worked with physicians throughout my career I learned to spot the exceptional ones. He was just that. I will miss him.

Words cannot describe how great of a person doctor Romain was. He was always so positive. The world needs more people like him. Heaven has claimed a remarkable Angel. Much love to his loved ones. He will be truly missed.  -A

Dr. Romain and I ultimately got onto a first name basis many years ago when I first became his patient.  We agreed that I would follow his instructions to the letter and he would do his best to help me stay alive and viable.  Michael did that as well as anyone else I could think of in the medical profession.  Some decades later, I, at 81, continue to feel quite well.

To Michael's family:  Sheila, also Michael's patient, and I continue to feel shock and sadness over Michael's death.   We are sorry we were not here at the time of his death or his memorial service.  Please know that Michael and we were all kindred souls with the same sensibilities, ethics, and morality.   The world has lost a wonderful doctor and authentic human being. My deepest condolences to you and your entire family. I was a patient of Dr. Michael Romain for over 25 years. He was an amazing physician and and person in general. We spent a lot of time over the years talking about life as we are the same age, both from NY and both came to Austin the same time. His love for his family was strong and we joked a lot about having 2 daughters that are the same age. It was a complete shock to me when I open the letter from ADC today informing of this terrible news as I just got back yesterday from Florida due to my Mom’s passing last week. Not a good month.   I will always remember his compassion and kindness during our many conversations over the years which was not always about my specific visit. He will be missed deeply.

I’m so saddened by Dr. Romain’s passing and his family is in our prayers.  He was truly a wonderful and kind person and will be greatly missed.

We are shocked and deeply saddened for the staff's loss of the most caring physician at ADC. And especially grieving for his family, his wife and children, whom he loved so much.  We have both been a patient of Dr. Romain, but I the longest, almost 30 years. If not for Dr. Romain's compassion and willingness to understand my chronic disease ME/CFS, I'd be permanently bedridden. He searched for one year to find a cardiologist who would conduct a crucial test that would qualify me for treatment. Because of Dr. Romain's caring concern for me and my family, always listening to me through good days and bad, and prescribing the medicines that improved my quality of life, I have been able to have a productive life, including traveling to Italy (the photo of David and me in Italy.) He always asked about our children and offered a steadfast hand when there were troubles with our daughter. He always greeted me with a big warm hug, and I am forever grateful for the love, concern, and medical support he gave me all these years. I will miss his warm smile and gentle nature. I last saw him in May and was able to tease him about where his gray hair went. He had a great sense of humor and the best nurse Monica. David and I send our deepest condolences to his beloved family, friends, and staff. He will be missed and remembered forever!

I was a new grad nurse on a med Surg unit. Dr Romain was always kind to answer all my questions. He was very knowledgeable and had the best bedside manner to all of his patients. When I left Austin Texas and came back for a visit, he took time to meet me and my friend for lunch and told me how he enjoyed a cruise trip with his family. Such a wonderful person and physician he was. I'm very honored to have worked with him and learned from him.  May Dr Romain rest in peace and prayers for his loved ones.

I was a patient of  Dr Romain's for many years. He was one of the kindest person, I ever met. Always had a smile when you saw him in office or outside of the office, around the hospital. I felt Dr. Romain was more than a doctor.  I was his patient for the better part of three decades and always felt like he kept me well and on the right path for my health. I am now 77 years old and felt sure I would go far sooner than he did.  I was in the hospital for some surgery several years ago and every  person, nurse or doctor that came into my room, told me he was the nicest doctor in the hospital! I already knew that, but it always feels good to have others say those thoughts out loud!  I will miss  him terribly and our conversations. He was the very best  doctor and human!

MIke, you are so missed !!!  It was quite a thrill to have started at ADC just a few months after you as an internist. Dr Romain was my PCP for more than 14 years, he was a natural down to earth Dr, A peace maker, a kind doctor, l know him since 1999 when l started working at summit hospital that changed name to cornerstone hospital,  Death is wicked to have cut his life so short like that. I met Dr. MIchael Romain about 10 years ago. He and my daughter worked night shift at St. David's. I had just moved to Austin and although he wasn't taking new patients he agreed to me my doctor. 
At each appointment we talked about things from family to politics. I think sometimes we talked a little too much.
I am truly going to miss those visits. 
I know that he is resting peacefully in God's loving arms. 
I pray that God will give his family strength and comfort.

I would like to send my deepest condolences 💐 to the Romain family. Dr. Romain was an awesome Dr and person to just sit and chat with. What I loved most was when I first met him , I didn’t know he was one of the Dr’s and when he came by to see the pt he just acted like a visitor. My patient made it back to her room and I let her know that there was a man that came by but he didn’t leave a name and in he walks. I told her oh here he is and she said, oh that’s Dr.Romain and we all laughed. From that day forward I called him Mr. Incognito since he wanted to keep a low profile anytime I saw him . That made his patient’s feel more relaxed and comfortable because he would speak with them in the beginning of the conversation like a person/friend then move into being the MD. Rest in heaven Dr Romain and you will truly be missed and I am glad I was able to work with you.

Such a privilege and blessing to serve alongside Dr. Romain in the hospice agencies we were colleagues at; he never wavered in his heartfelt caring for his patients and an exemplary physician. Love and prayers to his family.

When Jack and I would go see him for a doctor's visit, he would check us then we spoke football, New York, his trips etc.  Even during covid we were encourged to find another doctor by our insurance company because he couldn't come to the office but he could talk to us by phone.   We never would leave him.

Along with so many friends and family, I am so so saddened by this.   I feel honored to have worked with Mike over 25 years ago at ADC.   Although some times have passed since we have seen each other, his impression on me continues to loom large.   I will always remember his easy smile and gentle demeanor.  This is a huge loss to the world, but for those of us who crossed paths with Mike, we were truly lucky and blessed to have known you.   You will be very missed.

It is still hard to believe that Mike is not going to walk into the doctors dining room where we would sit and talk about politics, medicine and his love for his BMW's.  I loved hearing his stories about growing up in Brooklyn, riding the subways in the 70's when it was pretty sketchy.   He had such a calm, peaceful demeanor, very reassuring and comforting I am sure to all of his patients.   It was a pleasure being his partner and he was an example of what made ADC such a great place. I am so sad that he is gone too soon.  He will be missed and always remembered.

My heart is saddened to learn of the passing of my former student, Michael Romain. Michael was an undergraduate researcher in my lab at Brooklyn College. I remember him with great fondness.

One of the most amazing and kind doctors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I was a house supervisor at cornerstone in round rock. I remember while Christina was finishing school, he and Reese would round. Reese would come to me with his hand held out for a notepad and pen. As dad rounded, he as a 2 year old would write his own sticky note orders. He would always deliver them to me at the end of rounds. Dr. Romain gave me tickets to the Texans when he found out what kind of fan I was. We sat right next to his family in Houston. He always had such an amazing attitude. He saved me a few times in a job with NO breaks for 15 hours. He was always the first to recognize when I wasn't myself that as a type 1 diabetic, I needed to stop, check, and care for myself. One time with a 32 glucose. One of the most amazing men I have ever had the pleasure of working with! He will always be remembered as someone who cared, someone who loved, an amazing father and husband, an advocate, and a good friend for many years!

Doctor Romain will forever be remembered!  His Legacy will live on forever though each patient and coworker that has crossed his path.  I send my Heartfelt Condolences to Dr Roman’s Beautiful Family.  So sorry !  So very sorry for your lost.

There are no words of comfort during these times. The loss is greater than one should have to bare. We live our lives knowing that this day will soon come.. Doc was my friend. We shared many travel stories. Tons Of laughs. He gave some great travel tips. To his family, I send love and forever prayers. The pain of losing someone so great never disappears. Dr. Romain was our internal medicine doctor for almost 2 decades. Over the years, we developed a relationship that extended beyond our personal medical conversations. We literally spent hours talking about sports, politics, vacations, and our involvement with a nursing home ministry, but most importantly our families. When we would tell our youngest daughter we were going to the doctor, she would say, "Oh, so you are going to see your nephew." And, that is exactly how we felt about him ... he was like a part of our family.

I will miss my semi-annual conversations with Dr. Romain about Star Wars and Star Trek. I was happy to find someone who agreed with me that the only true Star Wars is the original trilogy. I wasn’t a fan of Picard, but Dr Romain convinced me to watch the third season. I always looked forward to his attaboys when I made some surprising improvement in my health. When I met with Dr. Romain about a year ago, I felt that if he weren’t my physician, he would be my friend. Good doctors are hard to find. Dr Romain was a good doctor. I’ll see him on Tatooine!

For all the years I had the privilege of knowing Dr. Michael Romain and seeing him at different facilities, it was always such a pleasure to catch up with him. He loved sharing stories about the vacations and cruises you all took, and he always spoke with such pride when talking about his family. Dr. Romain was my Doctor for several years and I loved him. He truly found his calling in life and gave his life to serve his community. I came to know Dr. Romain and his family once I started my career in hospice, however, I had the privilege of taking care of his patients when I was in home health. The amount of love his patients had for him was unmeasurable.  Getting to know him better over the past 6 years has been a joy and an amazing learning opportunity. His wealth of knowledgeable was untouchable and his kind, caring, and gentle nature was something we all strive to achieve. The best doctor I have ever work with that starts all his orders with the word please!
Humble, unmatchable, kind hearted, generous, helpful, and highly intelligent doctor! 
Is so hard to believe this!

Dr. Romain was our family doctor for over twenty five years. He took care of three generations with compassion, dedication and unending support . We always felt so very lucky to have had  the outstanding medical service that Dr. Romain provided. Over these years we had many discussions of not only our health, but the common bond we had of the love of travel. He often talked about the wonderful family trips he  took worldwide. He will be missed by so many and he touched so many lives in such a caring and compassionate manner. We will miss you Dr. Romain and we are better people for having you in our lives. I'm so sorry to hear about Mike and him transitioning.  We met through cousin Tony down in St. Louis/Tennessee.. after Tony joined both of those organizations.  We met and spent times playing racquetball and also keeping Tony in line as he was becoming the man at his job.  Mike and I being close in age, had similar mind set which allowed us to get along well! My condolences go out to Tony and Michael's family. God bless you all.

Is with great pain and sorrow that I write these words to say good by to my friend and colleague  a very effective clinician a wonderful human  I will miss your kindness and your humor and our conversation about Star Trek.  May god give comfort to your family in such difficult times  will miss you  I will miss you my dear friend

I had the happy honor of meeting Dr. Romain when he first joined the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in 1996 and found him to be funny, kind and courteous.  And as his practice and medical services grew and became very busy over the past 29 years he continued to be that same funny, kind and courteous man.  I will always keep that memory of him, and I wish peace and strength to his family and loved ones.

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, colleague, and doctor of 25 years, Mike Romain. Mike was more than a great physician, he was kind, funny, and always put people at ease. His compassion, wisdom, and sense of humor left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. I was fortunate to call him both my doctor and my friend, and his loss will be felt deeply by so many. He will be truly missed.

Dr. Romain was a colleague, friend, and my personal physician.  We worked together to bring hospice patients the dignity and care they deserved. He was so kind and compassionate to everyone. The world needs more people like him.  This is such a tragedy for all of us.

For over twenty years a colleague, friend and my person physician. No one I trusted more.  He was kind, caring and you KNEW he cared about every human he interacted with.  He had an infectious smile and laugh. The loss feels too big for words. My prayers and sympathies to Christine and his children and all who knew him. What a loss for the world.

There are no words to express my deepest condolences and the loss that will be felt in his absence. Not only was Dr. Romain an amazing doctor, he was someone that I enjoyed working with these past 15 years. He cared for his patients as well as the nurses. He along with you have been in my prayers these past few weeks.  I prayed for him to get better and now I pray for his eternal rest. I also pray that God grants you peace and strength. 
He was one a few doctors that always treated the nurses with respect. I don't ever remember him without a smile on his face and how his smile got even bigger when we talked about his children. Again,  please accept my deepest condolences. May he rest in peace.
