October 14th, 1961 - June 28th 2024
Michael (Mike) Anthony Vargas passed away on Friday, June 28th, 2024 in Austin, Texas, in the presence of his family. Michael was born on Saturday, October 14, 1961, as the youngest son of Jesus Vargas and Delia F. Vargas.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, he moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas where he received his Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA). Michael relocated to Austin permanently and in 1987 he founded his own firm, MK Vargas, LLC, serving as head accountant and business consultant. He continued to pursue his passion for accounting until he retired in 2023, passing his business over to his partner and employee, Duke Nguyen.
Michael became a father to Anthony Tijerina in 1983 and had a second son, Michael Ryan Vargas, in 1990. He married Laurie Vargas in 2001 and became the caring father of her two young children, Jordaan Hefner and Devon Hefner. Michael dedicated his life to living as a devout Christian, steadfastly following the teachings of his faith and tirelessly imparting its values to his family and those around him. He possessed a heart overflowing with compassion, embracing everyone he encountered as a friend while effortlessly inspiring others to be strong and committed to their goals. His great joy toward the end of his life was being able to witness the birth of his first grandchild, Hayden Lee Hefner, and he delighted in spending time with him.
Michael’s greatest source of happiness in life, as many would attest, was his unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind his wife, Laurie Vargas; his children: Anthony Tijerina, Ryan Vargas, Jordaan Hefner, and Devon Hefner (Kailey Hart); as well as his brother, Jesse Vargas; sister, Sandra Vargas; and numerous nieces and nephews including Laura and Julie Gonzales, Faith Hefner, and his nephews Jaxon and Landon Hefner. He will reunite with his parents, Jesus Vargas and Delia F. Vargas, along with his brother, Manuel Rangel, and sister, Debbie Vargas. His cherished roles as a loving husband, devoted brother, caring father, doting uncle, and proud grandfather will remain in spirit as he watches over everyone from his new beginning in Heaven.
