Micheal Anthony Vasquez, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2015 at the age of 50. He was born in Lockhart, Texas on September 3, 1965 to Juan and Mary Ann Vasquez. He was the youngest son and the fifth of six children.
He grew up in Austin and was a mischievous, funny and kind-hearted little boy with protective older siblings. Being the second youngest, he loved to pick on his “favorite” sister.
Micheal graduated from Lanier High School and always remained in touch with many of his high school friends.
Micheal enjoyed a long, rewarding career in the restaurant business. He worked his way through many positions with Sonic during his 25-plus-year tenure and formed lifelong relationships with Chuck Harrison, the Conway’s, and his extended Sonic family. He later worked for Which Wich, enjoying a close personal relationship with Bill Schwartz, who he admired and respected as a colleague and friend. He had recently accepted a new position with Taco Bell Corporate (Tacala) and was looking forward to the next phase of his career. Micheal was known as a great mentor to many in the industry, always sharing his experiences and offering helpful advice and guidance. Some even said Micheal ‘brought out the best in all of us.’
Micheal was a great friend who would go out of his way to help anyone with anything, including the chores no one enjoys doing, such as trimming trees, fixing air conditioning units, or laying new flooring. He was selfless.
He also enjoyed being outside and hunting with friends. He loved his Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys, even during their losing seasons.
Known for his quick wit and friendly smile, Micheal’s charm and charisma drew many to him, including his wife, Tina, whom he usually called “Babe” or “Sugar.” Micheal was a loving husband and provider who never wanted his wife to worry about a thing. They were true partners in life and love who withstood so much through their relationship and in the end came out stronger than ever. The two truly enjoyed being together—sharing date nights at new restaurants, hanging out with friends, and traveling when they could, including road trips to the Hill Country to their favorite wineries: William Chris and Compass Rose to name a few.
Micheal and Tina were married November 23, 2001. In addition to Micheal’s son, Zach (Bubba), and his daughter, Kalli, the couple also had a daughter, Lindsey. Micheal was a devoted father who loved his children deeply. Micheal was a man that always put his girls first before anything else. He loved to surprise them with lunch at school and would always commit the time to make his girls feel important. No matter how busy his schedule, he always set aside time to attend any dance performance, school function and sporting event. He felt strongly about teaching his children all aspects of hunting and fishing including: loading, cleaning and shooting a gun, field dressing, working a bow, and baiting a line. Micheal’s family and friends can find comfort and peace knowing he is reunited with his son, Zach, in heaven, where the two can finally play baseball together again.
Micheal is preceded in death by his son, Zachary Micheal Vasquez; his father, Juan G. Vasquez; his brothers, John Vasquez, John Albert Vasquez and John Gilbert Vasquez; his niece, Erica Christine Caballero; and his grandparents, Fernando and Julia Vasquez and Frank and Manuela Mayo.
Micheal is survived by his wife of 14 years, Tina Vasquez; daughters, Kalli Genece Vasquez and Lindsey Marie Vasquez; parents, Mary Vasquez of Austin, and Melvin and Nancy Lindsey of Pflugerville; sister, Liz Torres and her husband, Frank, of Pflugerville; brother, Fred Vasquez and his wife, Annie, of Austin; sister, Laurie Vasquez of Austin; brother, John E.
